One quite sad thing we've discovered this week on TWTD 15:06 - Oct 17 with 14895 viewsmonytowbray

is that Nazi/Fascist/Racist apologists are a real problem in some corners of this forum, and not just from the people who would instantly suspect.

Apparently you can throw a Nazi salute at a fairly well known far right event and people will say "put he may have just been waving". You can get in trouble at work for attending a widely regarded racist march and people are more bothered about defending freedom of speech than actual fascists running around our streets throwing said Nazi salutes.

Granted, it is the minority, but some of you people who think you are impartial and sit on the fence in these matters really need to consider what bothers you more and how far you are willing to go to brush this type of stuff off as no big deal or say "BUT YOU'RE BEING MEAN TO THE NAZIS WHICH IS JUST AS BAD".

Even if you identify as right or far right, you are in some dangerously f*cked territory when you shrug your shoulders at Nazis.

IT’S THE LEFT’S FAULT THE RIGHT WING EXISTS.

Sure, it has nothing to do with the fact America has been that way for years and buy into any white man who waves a flag around.

They didn’t buy into Mitt Romney or John McCain though did they?

My goodness your such a hypocrite you rightly object to a group of extreme right wing goons making deplorable salutes yet you constantly defend the most disgusting fascism that is rife in the current Labour Party led by the far left please explain to me why you rightly despise these morons on the extreme right but defend the anti Semitic far left

a basket of deplorables.

That was a Hillary Clinton quote about Trump's supporters just before the election, though wasn't it? You said it was happening long before they became Trump supporters?

You didn't. Badger goes into gibberish mode on these types of threads. I doubt you'll get a plausible reply either because he's wrong.

The poster who started the original thread on the FLA identifies as being right-wing as I recall (apologies Grizzly if I'm mistaken).

Did those punk bands show up at far right marches and do the salute?

Who needs context, aye?

Irrelevant to my point, which is that making a nazi salute doesn't necessarily make you a nazi anymore than wearing a swastika as a fashion item does. He *could* be a nazi, whatever the definition of that is now that the nsdap has been disbanded, he could be so dumb he doesn't know what it means, he could be trying to wind up the police, we just don't know from a photo.

We ended up with Trump because the Democrats fielded an unimaginative, uninspiring candidate, not because people called his supporters nasty names.

I don't think so somehow. Democrats were to the US as New Labour were to the UK, people do not like being sneered at, looked down upon and told how to think.

I'm a devout Centrist, hated by all sides - I'm thinking of sending off for one of those Safe Space kits they keep advertising on this site..

When have I defended anti-semitism?

I know A LOT of “far left” people and I don’t know a single anti-semite, although I do know a few critical of the Israeli government. They’re quite different things. Anti-Semitism is a problem not exclusive to the left as the papers like you to believe because the idea of a Labour government has the 10% terrified: https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-antisemitism-political-parties

Also odd all these new posters keep popping up who seem to want to defend racism and have some knowledge of posters. Think Phil’s ban hammer has weakened lately in opening the door.

No doubt shrugging your shoulders in the face of Nazis is a problem, I'm not sure wasting energy over it on a football forum is the most efficient way to fight it though.

I also think you miss understand the 'the left created the Nazis" argument- Its much more nuanced , and certainly holds some weight if you analyse the discourse over the last 10 years in Britain and the US objectively, rather than emotionally.

I'd also say shrugging your shoulders at the far left and not really being clued up on communist history is just as bad. Sure there's has been no left wing fascist that meet our description in today's world but communism, which is now celebrated by elements of Momentum (ash sarkar, novara media, etc) has been just as deadly historically (perhaps more in numbers?). I mean was it really better to be in Stalin's gulag or Hitler's camp? Same thing isn't it??? Hey and that's not mentioning how leftism has caused a humanitarian crisis in Venezuela- people now eating rotten beef and fat because there's nothing else, thanks socialism

It is indeed one of the conundrums of WW2, that we helped to defeat a mass murdering tyrant, by siding with another mass murdering tyrant. The one that is viewed as far worse, is the one that lost first. There was no ‘liberation moment’ of the gulags.
