Only Pennington is his in that back 4 and keeper.

He destroyed all confidence and morale in the camp so who signed who isn't the determining factor here. But I'd have hoped Lambert might have done more to address some of our defensive issues.

I think you miss the point.

We should have had 5 or 6 Hurst signings in the side. The fact we haven't isn't due to an unexpected injury crisis.

I am disappointed Lambert has not turned it around in terms of results but where we are is 100% down to Hurst (who Evans appointed so he has to take responsibility too).

Without Hurst we would have had waghorn. We would have won that by 3 or 4 goals by HT

I agree, the defence has been no bettr under Lambert.

Unlikely. He was hours away from handing in a transfer request in late July as Boro and Derby were both going to triple his wages. Replacing him with dross can't be defended though.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

It is mostly down to Hurst, but the more we say it is 100% down to Hurst and just write off all the problems to him, the more we are deluding ourselves.

If had decided to keep an unhappy Waghorn,

a) he probably wouldn't have been so good this season and
b) he would have less money to buy players so the gaps in the team would have been filled by players who cost less than the substandard players he did buy

Was Waghorn unhappy? We may never know, but there were thoughts that PH and Doig were ambivalent to him staying, how true that is god knows.

That was MM’s defence and keeper. Except Pennington of course.

Not sure there’s too much he could have done before the transfer window though. If you inherit absolute garbage you can try and make footballers out of them but it’s a big ask.

I think that’s very true. Hurst clearly wanted to stamp his mark on the club.

“I can remember talking to Marcus and saying what I was hoping to do and I think he was quite shocked and was thinking, ‘that is for another time’.

“It’s about me wanting to put my stamp on things I guess and we have done more than what he first thought”. Paul Hurst 5th September 2018

How those words are coming back to haunt us now...

Evans did not offer Didz a new contract. Webster asked to leave. Derby offered Waghorn more money than Evans would sanction. Quality leaves when they see the better players going. Then Evans only invested half the sale fees. Hurst did not spend it well but main issue is Evans and his constant poor decisions.

Nsiala is one of Hurst's buys that are not good enough at this level. I think most accept that. But having witnessed Diédhiou come on at half time for Bristol and turn the game on its head, surely Nsiala, even with his acknowledged deficiencies, would have been supreme in the air against Morison?
