So that's Erasmus gone then 09:20 - Jan 9 with 3942 viewsSwansea_Blue

British youngsters (and some older folks too) were among the largest beneficiaries in the EU of this scheme - we used to send about 40,000 people a year overseas to study, train, volunteer or gain professional development experience.

And we were one of the largest providers of training in the EU under the programme, benefiting countless organisations in this country.

Contemptuous w@nkers.

I disagree with your comment, though I suspect our underlying sentiment will be similar.

They respect the value of education, as long as you can afford to pay for it (Eton, etc), if you can't then you are a serf and don't deserve the opportunity... Yet they keep getting elected.

Because the opposition keep thinking that the politics equivalents of Paul Lambert is the answer.

I expect the UK to agree to become a Partner Country in the near future. All is not lost.

Even if that ends up being the case, the opportunities to those in Partner Countries are severely restricted.

And with no opportunity to influence the direction of the programme etc.

Stupidity is clearly a wonderful thing.

I suspect they are ending it through ideology not common sense.
The make-up of Erasmus is academics from all 28 countries teaching people from all the 28 countries. The Erasmus model of cooperation and togetherness within the EU must grate with the little Englanders. It represents everything that they want to get away from. Young people being exposed to the wonders of the EU - No thanks.
The Tories want Victorian workhouses back.

My assumption is that after Jan 31st, nobody in the Tory party will user the word “Brexit”.

Brexit will be done and anything after that will just be a normal independent country negotiating relationships and deals.

So the Tories will withdraw from everything that has an element of management or control, executed by the EU, to make sure people can’t say they haven’t delivered Brexit.

Unfortunately for the 'not too bright' the UK will have to use EU scheduales for the foreseeable future so will be bound by EU regulations and standards until at least the mid 2020's..... if it wants to trade with the rest of the world.

If Japan and the EU have agreed on specific definition of what constitutes a 'widget' then do the 'not too bright' seriously think Japan is going to waste time and money negotiating another definition. Do these self same thickos imagine that if a non league club joins the Football League it will be able to negotiate a seperate deal, or that TV rights will be changed so as to benefit them more that what the other 91 clubs currently receive.

No need for the EU to want to check/ban UK food that might simply be dodgy US sh it repackaged in the UK eitherm?

Perhaps ITFC could vote to leave the Football league so we can arrange games against who we like and when... under whatever rules we decide. I can see Real Madrid PSG, Man Utd and Inter beating a path to our door to play friendlies....on our terms.

No paying into FL and the FA coffers. No players from outside of Suffolk either. After all, if we did this we would soon see that the rest of football needs us more than we need them.

Whilst I too have significant doubts as to the wisdom of leaving, I’m not sure it’s a great look calling other people thickos whilst linking the UK leaving the EU to an example which isn’t in any way similar or equivalent

Why is anyone surprised this is only part of what leaving the EU means.
With an 80 majority they can do as they wish.
Mr Barlay has said the UK will leave the EU & go it alone if necessary - wasn't that always the case?

Interesting. Folk voted to leave the EU. Now folk are up in arms with certain decisions. You can’t have your cake and eat it I’m afraid. You can’t now pick and choose what you’d like to keep. Those that voted leave, voted for things like this. No point blaming the Government.

Not sure about Erasmus but I do know that ongoing participation in EU sciences/R&D programs is a high priority for BEIS.

Similar to the refugee issue amendment that was voted down earlier in the week, I would interpret this more about not tying government negotiatiors hands than what the government wants to achieve from the future arrangement.

If the WB requires them to negotiate X, Y, Z, then it hands an advantage to the EU who can then extract a "give" in return. By not being tied to any outcome, it gives the UK negotiators greater bargaining power.

If the non-league club in question provided 9% of the Football League's income then it would probably have an impact on their bargaining power.

Analogies aside, if this is as it says at face value then it's really, really sad. I was lucky enough to be in the scheme for a sandwich year and it helped open my eyes to the world. It feels unfair that future students won't be able to benefit from it for reasons out of their control.
