Yes but the difference is other channels are not public funded or only partially funded by the public, they have other sources of revenue like advertising.

So how can the BBC compete with them then? Talent comes at a cost and their main guys get paid significantly less than other channels as it is

I said right wing TABLOID guff.
It's not the views of Peter Whittle that are important here is is the views of the interviewee the respected journalist Robin Aiken who worked for the BBC for 25 years that are important.

The BBC Trust 's review obviously has nothing to do with my complaint about the BBC's left wing bias it was to do with my complaint that I also mentioned in my post that you replied to about how at best it ignored Saville's abuse & at worst covered it up.

Again, you've found one voice. Cherry picking and confirmation bias, the latter which you admit to.

I also stand by my assertion that anyone calling the BBC left wing is not credible. Liberal? Aye, that bias is clear. Fook we need it in this country with the rabid press. I don't like everything about the BBC but the agenda against them from the right wing press and Tories (in bed with Murdoch's racket) is a fooking joke.

I don't disagree with you about the Savile stuff, obvs.

It is not one voice though that is the thing. I have mentioned in other replies that the likes of Humphreys, Sissons and Marr have also stated that in their view the BBC is biased not just towards the Liberal but also left and Remain. I think that it is very telling that this is a view shared by current and former employees of the BBC.
If you disagree you disagree but this idea that it is just the Right Wing media that is arguing that the BBC is biased in its reporting & program content is just plain wrong.
The BBC has many issues and in my view is in need of radical reform.

But surely the fact that both sides think it's biased means it has a degree of balance at least. And do you really think it's biased in favour of the left? One of the BBC's best known journalists is Andrew Neil - I think he's a great broadcaster and suceeds in his impartiality, but if it were such a left wing bias, do you think they'd employ him? Robbie Gibb, a former big cheese at the BBC, then went to work for Theresa May. I'm sure there are left wing examples too, which proves my point that it's quite balanced.

One area I think in which the left dominates the BBC is comedy, some of which I find irritating myself, even as a lefite. However, the point of political comedy is to take the piss out of those in power and the status quo, which is why the Tories and Brexiteers generally bear the brunt of things. It's swings and roundabouts though - if you watch an episode of Mock the Week from 10 years ago, a lot of the jokes were aimed at Gordon Brown.

The BBC isn't perfect but it's a damn sight better than the partisan print media we have and television services in other countries.

Oh dear, I'm now also wondering if he's got all his teeth!

BTW it's occured to me that XYZ hasn't posted for over 6 months. Add that to wkj's sudden disappearance ... brings to mind Agatha Christie book title - 'Alphabet Murders'!

So are you suggesting that there might be more to vestanpance's disappearance than we think?

Just to allay any concerns, I can confirm wkj is alive and well, and her not posting on here probably proves that beyond any reasonable doubt :)

She is just very busy at the mo, what with organising the Al Fresco Society's 2020 calendar and other tasks. Plus I think the election really took it out of her. Campaigning for the SNP in Norwich was never going to be easy.

Phew, good to hear (well apart from the guilt by association with That Place).

Please pass on my best to her :) and she's much missed.

Shall do, R. And if you have any nice quiche or pie recipes I'm sure she'd be appreciative of that too.
