Jam spread in an even layer and then a big lump of cream is right, right? Made some with junior and this seems the best.

Also I'm not interested in the usual shenanigans, it's pronounced scone, not scone.

The CREAM is the BUTTER so goes on FIRST, with the JAM going on TOP. That is the CORRECT way of doing it. Anybody who says differently is a complete s#1*f&"!8%)+@£.

No, go the whole hog. Butter, then clotted cream, then the jam on top. Hardens the arteries a treat.

You put butter on Jamaica Ginger Cake!!!! Whatever next - well, it's schools out time so I am not going to post that clip from 'Last Tango In Paris'.

Decent butter on malted loaf is nice though.

I rarely ever eat scones. I doubt I have had any more than 5 in my life.

Isn't that basically what stottie is?

I've not had them so I'm in full-on ignorance mode.

Never tried it on a fruitcake, my old fruit (cake), but I shall now do so! Same thing with cheese applies to apple pies too. Was that on Twin Peaks, or am I imagining that?

I’m not carrying on a conversation with someone who doesn’t know the difference between cream and butter. Besides, you’re obviously a scone deviant.

You use the cream instead of, but in the same way as butter. It ain't hard is it. Why would you us jam in the same way as you use butter. The cream is dairy, butter is dairy. It ain't hard folks. I am definitely right on this one. It isn't about personal choice or any of that other nonsense, it is a case of right and wrong and I am right.

Jeera has confirmed, even J2 is on the right side of gastronomy this time. That's how wrong you are. Enough of your noise from the Dairy First brigade.

I wasn't aware that Jerra and J2 were the authority on here. My evidence comes from many years holidaying in Dorset and getting the history lowdown from the locals. The Cornish nicked it from the Devonshire folk and turned the cream and jam combo upside down. Do your research before coming on here playing the big I am.

Hmmmm, so many things are invented, and then improved upon.

Are you trying to say the Cornish version is the more recently improved way to prepare the scone?

It is a matter of personal preference, the Cornish way gets my vote.

As an aside I prefer Dewdney’s pasties to Cornish and they are made in Devon.

When something is correct and perfect as is, improvement isn't needed. I get your point though. (Just not in this instance). The Cornish version is more recent, but definitely not the improved version.
