If you look at the actual statement by the government it was downgraded due to overall mortality rate but still requires special measures otherwise it would be upgraded again.

"The need to have a national, coordinated response remains, but this is being met by the government’s COVID-19 response."

Much, much too early to make those assertions imo at this early stage and when so little is known about C-19 wouldn't you agree?

Thanks. SB beat you to it. He highlighted the most salient fact out of the whole statement, that being:

"If you look at the actual statement by the government it was downgraded due to overall mortality rate".

Hang on - you can't grab a part of a response and put it in quotes without taking the whole thing.

That's massively bad form. There is a huge caveat to that sentence which you've left off.

Isn't the part of text I put in quotes the reason why the virus was down-graded?

If the caveat I left out was as "huge" as you suggest, would it not be imprudent for the virus to be downgraded at this time?

How can it be imprudent if the action is the caveat is being implemented?

Yes, it's good news.

Not entirely sure why you down-voted the post to be honest but each to their own.

However Bluesquid has spent days downplaying the issues and neglected to include the fact that a government response like the one we are currently having is a caveat to the downgrade. That is why I posted the link and the quote.

SB

It would appear Bluesquid's efforts to downplay the hype associated with Covid-19 have been vindicated by both Public Health England and the Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens.

Why is the action in the caveat being implemented after the downgrade? It seems like a mixed message to me or a case of too much too late.

I don't think accusations of trolling in Bluesquid's case are particularly fair. It would appear that both National Health England and the Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens also see fit to downgrade the threat of the virus.

You on the other hand seem narrative driven to hype the threat of the virus to the fullest.

So you've been back a few days, already you've pushed the conspiracy theory that it's all been blown out of proportion so that governments can increase their power and not give it back.

Meanwhile if you just watch the 10pm news:

- France running out of ICU beds
- Spain run out of ICU beds and gear for doctors
- In the US, New York alone needs 140,000 beds in the next two weeks
- In Italy 700+ people died just today
- Etc, Etc, Etc

My posts were clear, his was cherry picking. It's downgraded because the mortality is low and that's a register for high mortality diseases. However there was a massive caveat that the government response is definitely required to combat it because even it it's got low mortality it's very infectious and low mortality with a lot of cases is still a lot of deaths. It's actually far more deaths than a high mortality disease which is less infectious but you don't care about the actual facts.

You've totally ignored the complexity of that in order to push your agenda and cherry picked information to try and support it.

It's awful stuff and to be honest you should give a it rest.

Yet you've made plenty of assertions that it's not that bad and that you are right to downplay it.

You don't actually address the points put to you. You've not addressed the ones in this thread either and you once again cherry picked whilst leaving out vital information.

I am not going to waste my time like the other night in the knowledge that you will ignore everything and keep pushing your narrative.

I'm going to respectfully ask you to take a deep breath and calm down. We should be celebrating the fact that these expert medical bodies have downgraded the severity of this virus .

"already you've pushed the conspiracy theory that it's all been blown out of proportion so that governments can increase their power and not give it back."

Good lord, what are you like? That's a case of 2+2=22 if ever I saw one. Astonishing.

I appreciate your efforts to dig out those stats but it doesn't follow that COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK if the consequences are so horrific, as you illustrate.

I apologise for "cherry picking" the information which happens to be the reason for the downgrade of the virus. More rational types would call it "summarising".

Just like the other day when you attempted to write off years of football, music and others post i've made as rubbish. Just insane really.

I still like his quote and think it's applicable in the current context. In my 60 years I never remember a government increasing freedoms. As far as I'm concerned the damage this is doing to society long term will dwarf the number of deaths. I get that this is an unpopular view but I see the culture of where I live being shredded before my very eyes and I'm scared of expressions like "the new normal".

The implication of that is clear to anyone reading it, especially the last line.

But its not really a dangerous one, is it? Just being hyped up by governments around the world to enforce draconian powers and limit the common persons freedom. Another attack on sovereignty. Don't know what all the fuss is about.

The world needs to man up.
