It looks like that is about the technical classification of the disease and doesn't seem to be incorrect.
Newspunch is a fake news website and anyone relying on it is a moron.
Yes but my point being it could still confuse people after they read the definition of a HCID and find that C-19 isn't included in that list.
From the Government website (not Newspunch) -
Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria. They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of which continues to increase."
Definition of HCID
In the UK, a high consequence infectious disease (HCID) is defined according to the following criteria:
acute infectious disease typically has a high case-fatality rate may not have effective prophylaxis or treatment often difficult to recognise and detect rapidly ability to spread in the community and within healthcare settings requires an enhanced individual, population and system response to ensure it is managed effectively, efficiently and safely
*Edit. Seems to me that C-19 meets every one of those criteria.

Have a look at what does meet the HCID definition. It's things like Ebola and Plague!

I think it was too early for the Government to make that judgement as so much is still so unknown about C-19 and it would also help to get people on board and to understand about the lockdown.
It wouldn't of hurt for C-19 to be classed as a HCID for the next few months at least until more is known and then downgraded at a suitable time point after things have improved (hopefully).

I did earlier, you clearly didn't read it. At least two people in Mullet's thread interpreted it as relating to key workers. One poster with that view got quite shirty with me for saying the advice was unclear, which is quite ironic really given that you're doing the same despite reaching a different conclusion to the other poster and thus proving me right.
Also, see this from the Beeb:
People can go to work if they cannot do their work at home, the health secretary has said, amid confusion over the new coronavirus restrictions.
It comes after calls for clarity, including from construction workers, about Monday's wider shutdown measures."
Not the kind of thing that's usually required after a clear and unequivocal statrement. And it's not you being smarter than others, Dollers, in fact it's quite the opposite.

I read the Mullet thread at the time, I'm not going through the whole thing again. Feel free to link the actual posts here, I'm sure there's something you've omitted or failed to mention.
I read the story on the Beeb earlier and the calls for clarity were from the Labour Shadow Home Secretary. No surprise he's suggesting they were unclear.
Just had a look on the Beeb and the lead story is, "Coronavirus: Only go to your job if you cannot work from home - Hancock." Which is what I've been saying all along. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52022417
You're saying I'm thicker than others, and yet what I thought it clearly meant has now been shown to be correct.

The advice from Matt Hancock excludes the words "absolutely necessary", he's telling everyone who can't work from home they should go to work to keep the country running. That's not the message that was given out last night. It's unclear messaging again. The fact he's had to clarify is evidence the messaging wasn't clear. I'm not sure why you're struggling to grasp that.

I've explained to you how the messaging was clear if you take what was literally said at face value. I'm not doing it again.
You know I have no love for the Tories or Boris, so I have no reason to support their stance. Every opportunity to knock them you take it. Which is fair enough, normally I'd be with you.
I suggest that I'm looking at things objectively and you aren't.
I love Callis but he's doing the same. If Corbyn had been in power neither of you would be so vociferous about what you consider the mistakes of government during this crisis. That's the long and the short of it IMO.
If the government's advice wasn't clear this entire board would be expecting me to pipe up. People reading these exchanges will know the truth.

You've not addressed anything I've raised, Dollers. You've nailed your colours to the Boris is doing a decent job mast and we know what you're like once you've set your mind to something. I think you do have a soft spot for Boris as it goes. I've provided you with plenty of evidence that the messaging wasn't clear. You're choosing to ignore it. I think, once again, that we're done here.

Yeah, and I've proved (by showing what he actually said versus what you thought could be interpreted) that it was indeed clear.
I could link you to posts where I've attacked Boris, particularly over racism, so saying I have a soft spot for him is just silly and more desperate tactics from you.
But yeah, we're done. There's no need to get hung up on losing to me, it happens occasionally. Hope you have a lovely virus-free evening x

Would just like to point out that C-19 had actually been on the High Consequence Infectious Diseases list since January and was then downgraded just a few days ago.

If you look at the actual statement by the government it was downgraded due to overall mortality rate but still requires special measures otherwise it would be upgraded again.
"The need to have a national, coordinated response remains, but this is being met by the government’s COVID-19 response."

That's good news, right?
Yes, it's good news.
Not entirely sure why you down-voted the post to be honest but each to their own.
However Bluesquid has spent days downplaying the issues and neglected to include the fact that a government response like the one we are currently having is a caveat to the downgrade. That is why I posted the link and the quote.
