A Police Commissioner on 5 Live last night confirmed that MoTs are not considered "essential". When he was then asked whether police would overlook lapsed MoTs during this period, he replied "That's a matter for the Chief Constable". So, no guarantees.

Just seen pics of the underground this morning on 11:31 - Mar 24 by BrixtonBlue | i think some people are being obtuse because they're anti government or anti Tory. I've said my bit about the clarity. I'm going on what he's actually said and he hasn't said "only key workers." I don't have anything else to add. It's clear as day if you're not trying to look for ambiguity. |
So can you let me know which journeys to work are absolutely necessary and which aren't at this current time please? The posters who have interpreted it differently than you aren't remotely anti Tory or anti government either by the way and they also thought what was being said was clear whilst seeing it differently to you.

Necessary is something that is necessary. It is impossible for government to advise you on what may be necessary to you and or your work. You are being asked to act like a responsible person under a liberal government. If people aren't capable of doing this (which may end up being the case) then ultimately we may end up with The Paras smashing you over the head with a rifle butt. What would be public opinion if we had started from day 1 with being hit round the head with rifle butts?

Advising outright is exactly what the government need to do. For example, are you expecting construction sites to shut of their own will/volition?

Everyone will consider their work necessary. I'm not sure that's what was intended.

Personally I think some people lack moral fibre. I don't have to come into contact with anyone when I go to work so I will go in for two days a week. If I had to go on public transport or had to come into contact with people then I wouldn't go. If people are selfish or haven't the grey matter to rationalise things then we are in a sorry situation (and we very well may be in that sorry situation) but if you want a Nanny State, or indeed an authoritarian one then Boris isn't your man*** ***I appreciate he isn't your man anyway, under any circumstances, but it was a figure of speech.

Gove was all over the place this morning. The government need to be crystal clear if they want to empty public transport. And they should close everything non essential. Why are construction sites and factories essential at this moment if they’re not contributing to the supply chain for beating this. There still appears to be twin priorities of keeping as much of the economy moving as possible, and flattening the curve. They feel mutually exclusive.

Sure, because you don't want to engage. If two people are telling me something is clear whilst offering different definitions of that clear thing then it probably isn't as clear as you think. It's telling that you don't want to go into any detail about what constitutes absolutely necessary.

It's easy for you to criticise when you can do your job without coming into contact with anyone. Plenty of people can't work from home and need to earn to live. They will see their work as being essential and will carry on doing it for as long as they are able to.

I see what you are saying, they haven't been clear about offices staying open etc. Although a lot of businesses would fall foul of the no groups of more than 2 people. I think it has to be taken into account that some firms may be pressuring staff and that it's not necessarily all workers have made a choice. *This is has probably been said; I haven't really read through properly.

This is that what I read a day or two back too. Makes no sense to put on fewer trains when people are suppose to be distancing. It goes against everything people are being told.

That if his advice is meant to be that everyone that can't work from home can travel to go to work regardless of what their work is then social distancing is pretty much pointless, ergo I'm not sure that's what was intended. Perhaps if he'd been clear about what he meant there would be less confusion.

Yep, which is why there should be some clear guidance for employers. Some non-essential businesses just need to shut down at this point (not just in retail and hospitality) if we're serious about social distancing.

That's undoubtedly true of some people but then there are others that want to make a living for as long as they are able to. At the moment self employed people will get £94 p/w - they have families to look after.

I've already engaged. I've already given my take on it. Other than repeating myself I don't know what you want from me. I can't answer why some people aren't getting what is very straightforward advice.

That's not how others have taken it. It's also not clear, listening to Michael Gove earlier and seeing some now removed advice that the Government put out last night, that your interpretation was what was intended. The messaging hasn't been clear. I'm not sure why you can't grasp that when multiple people say advice is clear whilst simultaneously offering different interpretations of said advice then by definition it isn't clear.

I didn't say whether the advice was right or not, I just said it was pretty clear. It certainly doesn't make social distancing pointless.

Where does this £94 p/w figure come from? I got a lot more than that when I was on Universal Credit.
