Indeed. Stunts like the White House briefings and then this is all about those too disenfranchised to look up the truth

Did you see his Monday night briefing? He showed a 5 minute severly quote mined self congratulation video montage about how everyone loves him. The most disgraceful display I have very witnessed from a democratically elected leader. It was like a scene from North Korea. Utterly disgraceful.

I disagree whole hardheartedly with your assessment of Warren, but I've had it out too many times with too many real life Sanders supporters over here that I'm tired of it now. So we can agree to disagree there. Sanders would have been my number two pick anyway, so there's no point having a barney!

I think there is a huge difference between Biden and Clinton. 1) He's a white bloke and not a woman, 2) He enjoys (currently) a lot of fondness from many people who link him to those Obama years, and because of his personal story. Clinton was and is widely loathed by many, and I just don't see that being the case for Biden.

None of that obviously means he will walk it, he has a lot to do to win over the younger progressive voter, and the Republicans are going to tear him to shreds over his son and Burisma.

I know this isn't the nominee I wanted, and I find him entirely uninspiring, but removing Trump is the number one thing for me. If the Democrats were smart they will get Biden over the line, somehow flip the House, then start playing the Right at their own game.

Massive expansion of voting rights, remove the filibuster, sort out DACA, statehood for DC and Puerto Rico, strong and meaningful environmental protections, neuter the NRA, comprehensive access to healthcare, punish those responsible for throwing children in cages at the Mexican border, expand the number of judges on the Supreme court. Set up a dynasty that will take this country in the right directions for generations. They can't be distracted by infighting.

I thought you might :)

Yes, I can certainly see why he would have more appeal than Clinton generally, although I don't think it helps winning the left over (I guess their strategy, again, is to fck them off and hope they can do without their votes). Biden was, of course, the conservative pick for VP to help Obama appeal to the sort of people who weren't keen on the idea of a black man called Barrack Hussein Obama being in charge.

The risk with Biden from the start was that he was, as you allude to, the subject of the impeachment. Given that that backfired and saw Trump's approval rating go up, it's not hard to see Trump playing the 'they tried to get rid of me very unfairly' card, and, from his POV at least, has a point he can make in that the Dems stopped his 'investigation' into Biden because they wanted him to run against Trump.

I totally get the 'get rid of Trump at all costs' idea, although I still stand with my point the other day that this election is only going to further the apathy that people (largely on the left) feel at not having their views represented anywhere, and as a result can sympathise wanting to sit the vote out.

Your last paragraph is it, although I really can't see Biden as the man to do that. I guess that's the difference between the left and the right (in the US and UK, and elsewhere): the right will spot a winner and run with it, even if they don't think the choice is great; whereas the left won't easily abandon their beliefs just for the sake of it. The benefit of being an immoral shameless opportunist I guess.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Think we both , among others, suggested that early in his Presidency when Elder Grizzly was suggesting he wouldn’t last long.

The Democrats are less divided this time and you won’t see 100,000’s writing in the name of a third party.

In a ‘normal’ democracy he’d be long gone. America is anything but sadly, but when you have the courts firmly on your side through your appointments and the Senate so biased he has put everything in place to survive almost anything.

There was genuine belief amongst Government officials and my peers around the world he would not survive 2 years. We were wrong, but I don’t think anyone could have predicted what a corrupt moron he would turn out to be.

Spending a lot of time in the US and with US Government officials there is real fear and panic of what happens if he gets a second term. Emboldened would be an understatement

Probably more a hunch than anything but I always thought he would win as soon as he entered, I also thought he would last the term. I also think that he will absolutely storm it again second time round.

I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the first president to be able to do more than 8 years (and I'm only half joking)

If Putin is guaranteed the Big Boss job until 2036 anything can happen.

Think this is more an indictment on the US political system than anything else. But hey as POTUS you aren't going to change anything while you are winning.

I gave Trump 180 days but was completely wrong on that, namely because there is such a high bar on impeachment and with the Republicans controling the Senate, Trumpy would have to go completely off the wall to lose an impeachment vote. In an effectively 2 party system whoever controls the Senate keeps their person at the helm.

Working for a US multinational, I travel over to the US several times a year, haven't met a Trump supporter yet. Everyone is looking at how a change is made and embarrassed by how their country is being portrayed internationally.

Side note, spent 2 weeks in the US in mid Jan and thought Buttigieg spoke well and seemed a breath of fresh air. Suppose he didn't appeal to the masses for various reasons and had some previous racial issues that tarred his rep. So the Democrats end up with Biden challenging the Orange Mussolini.

I had about 30 trips to the USA last year and they are there I can assure you.

Travel about 200 miles in from either coast and there are plenty. Also, for most you don’t need to be a Trump supporter, just a Republican. And you vote forever wears that badge.

Such a small % of the public will swing the vote and even then it will be in such a small handful of states.

Can't disagree with that at all, not so dissimilar to Irish politics and the FF/FG parties that continuously get into power due to loyalty over pragmatism. People vote based on party allegiance/local issues rather than for the good of the country.

Wasn't really saying Trump didn't have any supporters, but when I asked those who I met on my travels who was the Dems nomination who could dethrone the incumbent there was no singular candidate who stood out. Hence unless the US economy tanks (a possibility) and unsettles Trumps core supporters I can see another term easily.

Yet it is still not impossible he will be re-elected. The winner will be the side that gets their support to vote. The MAGA brigade will back Trump, whatever happens. Come November America will becoming out of this and Trump will make it clear that is only because of his presidency.

Just been watching his daily presser. He really is a fcking lunatic, he doesn’t give a monkeys about the virus, it’s a party political broadcast in an election campaign. At one point he claimed he’d created the greatest economy in the history of the world ever. That’s a direct quote.

Your predictions were called our pretty regularly EG, as being BS.

It was obvious from the very beginning how this presidency would play out with a complete narcissist in such a partisan environment.

Could get taken apart on this but going to post all the same! Currently I think it's odds on Trump gets re-elected due to the collegiate system, lack of a candidate who unifies the US people..don't think Biden will win enough Republican voters to stop Trump. (Happy to be corrected by our US posters)

What I have experienced in my trips across the pond is that what was once the greatest economy in the world is no longer. The US have a lot of infrastructure and technological challenges to deal which feeds into the MAGA movement.

Weird aggression VT. A prediction can’t be bs, but in hindsight it was wrong.

Governments around the world called it wrong as we’ve never seen a President do this in a supposed democracy. The checks and balances haven’t worked.

If anyone had said he would do what he had done without censure they would be laughed out.

No aggression.

He has led as he campaigned. Lots of people saw it coming. There was a body of opinion that he would become more orthodox in office, which never felt likely and then there were the predictions you describe, that he would be impeached or resign, which again always felt fanciful.

He’ll do the eight years, and whilst he won’t get away with it, he’ll be jealously studying the moves of Putin and Xi to alter the constitution.

The hope is Biden can pick up those more moderate Republicans who couldn’t vote for Clinton.

His VP pick is going to be key. Kamala Harris would be my pick.
