Are you sure you want to relax the restrictions. on 21:25 - May 8 by bluelagos | Still want to see the measures relaxed - but only when it is the right time and done in the right way. Am thinking that people when given an inch will take a mile - so if we relax them now - too many people will take the pss. And with that comes a risk of increased spread - more deaths - longer lockdown. Guess I am not liking it at all - but ultimately there are more important things than mine or others enjoyment. IF the relaxation could be achieved and people stick to the rules - I'd still support it - but think the consensus view is right. I have pretty much been persuaded. The deaths are still too high. They are falling - and we are on the right track - but think we need to stick with it and not risk a resurgence. *All my opinions only - but you did ask :-) |

Thanks for your reply. Yes the problem is some people are already acting differently with the current restrictions. If some elements are relaxed we know people will not act sensibly and will be out and about. The overall sense is that there will be another few weeks as we are as we need to get the death and infection rates down.

We also need a vision of what the future will look like. We keep hearing that not all business can be protected/ saved. If the government have sectors in mind that will suffer the most then they should spell it out.

Are you sure you want to relax the restrictions. on 19:52 - May 8 by NotSure | Maybe control was the wrong word. Contain is better. If you have an outbreak in a care home then test everyone and get out anyone who is clear of the virus. Everyone else goes to hospital and you shut it down. Look the virus should never have got there in the first place, terrible mismanagement by this government. |
It’s not easy to move residents of nursing and care home about. These are the most vulnerable in society with specific needs, some of whom become easy distressed and worried at any sign of change. Start moving them around, without even considering the staff numbers required to do it, and you’ll have a number of deaths on your hands due to undue stress. Care homes should have been instructed to go into shielding procedures from very early on, though many did anyway, and far more attention should have been paid to them rather than what felt like pure focus on the NHS.

Are you sure you want to relax the restrictions. on 09:13 - May 9 with 700 views | hampstead_blue | Agree with the OP. In Wiltshire there have been few deaths but a care home not far has all but been emptied. At least 10 dead with most infected. Release the most important trades so we can get the economy moving.
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Are you sure you want to relax the restrictions. on 19:30 - May 8 by itfcjoe | Care homes, that house the most vulnerable people, have been totally chucked under the bus Was reading about one in Manc where people moved from there from hospital who had had Cov-19 and the care homes weren’t told about it, not given their notes (deliberately) They are just incubators for viruses, and have people coming in and out, often the poorest and BAMEs who are more likely to get it as it is. They should have been treated like hospitals from Day 1. The ‘media’ who seem to get so much stick were the ones who pushed this and brought it to the fore |
And it's not as if they were in a good state before. A fragmented system which has had problems for some time now in the name of profit. It's not as if we weren't warned, as there have been a series of exposes over the years highlighting how badly some of these are run.

Are you sure you want to relax the restrictions. on 10:06 - May 9 with 665 views | Radlett_blue | A complete non sequitur. Sensible easing of some of the restrictions would have next to no impact on care homes. As others have said, trying to isolate care homes is something governments in ours and several countries have failed to manage well. The industry has attracted a large number of dubious operators looking to make a fast buck, but how social care is funded and managed is a whole topic in itself.
