Red wine suggestions.... 21:49 - May 24 with 2690 views | BanksterDebtSlave | So over the last few months I decided it was time to leave my Special Brew days behind me and indulge in a drop of red wine while sitting in my Range Rover listening to level 42. I have gravitated towards Rioja/Temperanilo on the whole in the £3.69 to £9.89 range. Tonight I went with a Bordeaux (reduced to £6.50) to try and broaden my horizons but think it might taste about the same. Where am I going wrong and can anybody suggest some smooth fruity numbers for me to try? Many thanks....hic!

Seconded for the Malbec. A great variety and very cheap/available most places. Definitely quaffable. P.S. Don't drink and drive, even if you are listening to Level 42.

I am not a wine drinker, but Osyter Bay Merlot is very nice.

Red wine suggestions.... on 22:37 - May 24 with 2588 views | jeera | For years all I would drink was a claret, but eventually that started being too heavy/heady for me. I now avoid merlot at all costs. Seconded for the comments on malbec, Argentina and Chilean around the 7 - 8 quid mark, so hardly extravagant. Shiraz is too sweet as a rule for me, especially the new world types, but will drink it. Might be up your street though. [Post edited 24 May 2020 22:38]

Surely Médoc is a Bordeaux?

I disagree. The left bank of the Garonne is part of the Bordeaux wine area.

Red wine suggestions.... on 23:30 - May 24 with 2515 views | catch74 | For something a bit different try a Portuguese Duoro - grapes from the port making area. I’ve just seen Adnams have one, should be decent. Pinot Noir will definitely be different to the ones you’ve been trying, much lighter.

Red wine suggestions.... on 08:50 - May 25 with 2367 views | ElephantintheRoom | You are going wrong in thinking red wine is red wine... it is a vast variety of red wines. First obtain an understand of terroir - talking grape varieties is pure marketing baloney. Then get to know a soupcon about wine making.... most cheap wines from nouveau countries are made in industrial vats and are about as authentic as branded lagers with foreign names 'brewed under licence in Northampton' The appreciate that red wine has to breathe - try pouring it into a jug to get some air into it. Then explore French wines..... by understanding that the same grape in different parts of the same field can produce wines of startling difference in quality and drinkability will pay dividends if you later want to make the mistake of buying some of the better wines from the new world. Once you have reached burgundy.... take the time to stop there - and only leave if trying some of the wonderful reds from within the cotes-du rhone . But as its hot at the moment - quoff some decent provencal rose if you can find any. - and remember red wine is best drunk with food.

Yep, can’t go wrong with that. For Malbec, try Kaleu Malbec 2018 if you can find it. Well lush and about the same price.

Red wine suggestions.... on 09:22 - May 25 with 2341 views | Libero | I like a Jam Shed, me. It’s proper fruity and only £7 a bottle. Blackcraft is excellent too but somewhat more expensive... EDIT: just looked it up, Blackcraft is nowhere near as expensive as it was a few years ago, £11/£12 a bottle it looks like now! [Post edited 25 May 2020 9:24]
