Mach, Benters might be a nice person when you meet him at games, but on here he was not pleasant.
He wanted Eastern Europeans to 'go back to their own country'. When my Polish wife's brother in law was beaten up by some racist scaffolders about 6 years ago, he suggested it was his fault for stealing British jobs.
So, lovable old Benters was not the nicest of blokes on here. |
I can only say what I say from my personal experience. Always nice, good and friendly to me when meeting up pending the away days. And I'm Polish as you know but never experienced any unpleasantness from him.
Perhaps some of his views were annoying to some but I wasn't involved in that nor have I ever been abused by him. But the main problem here is that you have to be a labour supporter or speak nicely about mccarthy or any player from his team no matter how they perform nowadays. Otherwise you could be one of those who would receive some bad comments or bullying. They put some people off from posting by their attitude. Never gonna happen with me though and a few others but they will keep doing so I'm sure.
You can easily detect some peoples conduct and you can't tell us that they behave OK. You can't tell us that they are good and decent people. Each to their own obviously but bullying others for different opinions isn't acceptable. [Post edited 21 Jun 2020 19:55]

I have never met him, but I have heard from others who have, that in the flesh he is completely different then he was on here. And that's even from people with very different views than him.
The internet in general is a tough place these days. Whether that's due to subconscious mental stress from the C19 problems, or the polarised social and political environment, or, in this case the absence of football (no matter how good or bad it is), I don't know. On here, probably all 3 and many others.
Everyone has opinions about many things. Online arguments in general should be reasonably good natured and if someone sees red mist, they should step away from the keyboard for a few minutes rather then hammer away at the keyboard.
But having said that, there should be some ground rules, and there are as per the terms and conditions:
Please respect your fellow posters and refrain from name calling and personal abuse
Don't swear, post libellous, racist, homophobic, threatening or adult material or harass other users
Too many people aren't following these at the moment. Phil is being very lenient in letting discussions flow. However, its also happened that some people have made racist comments recently, and have been called out for it, and its clear that racism is not accepted.
An example is 'All live Matter'. which has been hijacked right now by the far right, and it can be argued is being used in a racist manner. But that might be another 10 pager right there. [Post edited 21 Jun 2020 20:10]
