Hunt, Tom. MP (c) 16:26 - Aug 26 with 3741 views | artsbossbeard | Has put a poll on his sycophantic fb page where you can vote on the defunding of the BBC, which he'll bring to parliament if he gets the right result, which he will, of course. Fans of "smashing the system" and/or "sh1ts & giggles" with a constituency postcode fill your boots here. https://www.tom4ipswich.com/haveyoursay-should-the-bbc-licence-fee-be-abolished/

Hunt, Tom. MP (c) on 07:37 - Aug 27 by hampstead_blue | Have to say I've never heard of Darren Grimes but the fb poll is not a very elegant way of creating a debate. You can't 'defund' the BBC for being a left-wing mouthpiece. You can prove the point and then ask for reform. |
You'd love Grifter Grimes. He speaks your language.

I am not calling hampstead a liar, but given Grimes loves to whinge on the BBC political programmes and is mates with a lot of people he's expressed sympathetic views to, I can only assume he's not put a name to a face.

Just checked. Never seen him before.
| Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me.
Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing.
Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial.
Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid.
Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Hunt, Tom. MP (c) on 08:03 - Aug 27 by 26_Paz | I didn’t realise that, happy to be corrected if I’ve made a mistake. Which countries? |
In Europe, Albania, Austria, Bosnia, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Montenegro, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland all have TV licences. Norway and Sweden have a special income tax for fund public TV so payment depends on earnings. Some others have a fee that is built into their electricity bills (Greece and Turkey). Plenty of other countries in other continents have licences, including Japan and South Africa, while other countries do it by direct government grants (e.g. ABC in Australia).

Please don't ruin his misguided and uninformed opinion with facts. Some of us will continue to support the BBC and the work it does not only in our country at large, communities in particular and the world as a whole, despite whatever this Fake News government tells us to do.

They have tv licences but are these used to exclusively fund just one broadcaster?

I am seriously worried about what the current government is capable of. It seems nothing is beyond the pale for them, so I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see an attempt to terminally damage it in some way before their term in office is over.

In some cases yes (e.g. Austria). In Germany it funds more than one public broadcaster. In some countries it is split between a public television broadcaster and a radio one (they don't have one public broadcaster that does both), so the answer is effectively yes. Ironically (given the point it looks like you were attempting to make), the UK is not one of these countries as our licence fee also funds S4C.
Hunt, Tom. MP (c) on 23:24 - Aug 27 with 616 views | J2BLUE | The licence fee is an absolute bargain for the content we get. The fact that the majority of the left and right both think the BBC is biased against them just shows what an increasingly black and white world we live in. Everyone has to be either all in and agree with my side in the strongest terms or they are clearly working for the other side. It's stupid. The BBC's Olympic/Euros/world cup coverage alone is worth the licence fee not to mention the website, radio and all the other content we get such as iplayer.

Hunt, Tom. MP (c) on 07:26 - Aug 27 by 26_Paz | If you want to watch TV in this country regardless of whether that’s BBC or not you have to pay it, the vast majority of people will want to watch TV, therefore it may as well be a tax. It’s a broadcasting company these ‘arts initiatives’ are beyond its remit and if they’re economically unviable they shouldn’t be using our licence fee to fund them. This is a can of worms I perhaps shouldn’t open but given statements coming out of senior figures in the BBC during the last week relating to the whole ‘Rule Britannia’ debacle I’m not entirely convinced of their impartiality ... |
I presume you know what the BBC's remit is, do you, Lord Reith?
