What about Melbourne which had a very strict lockdown and now has a near baseline zero number of cases? It's not perfect but it can make a huge difference and at the moment it's all we have.
Surely the best thing to do is manage the pandemic in such a way that exposure is limited until we have hopefully have a vaccine. The alternative is to continue on a path that even with local lockdowns was showing 3x the level of expected "reasonable worst case" deaths and an accelerated upwards trajectory.
Your position on here throughout the lockdown seems to have been inherently selfish. If you're OK and can do what you want then who cares about everyone else. You can't put a price on freedom after all.

FWIW saw an interview with a Prof Farrar about a week ago saying that he strongly believed that *treatments* for Covid19 are likely to arrive a lot sooner than any kind of effective vaccine - drew parallels with the Aids virus & pointed out that thre's still no effective vaccination for that 30 years on, but the majority of those affected are able to live life to the full & long-term because of the effective treatments that have been developed for it. |  |

At universities, at least there’s stuff in place to prevent the spread (a lot of what I do until January is online for example. So I’m only actually on campus twice a week atm). But in schools, there’s surely an argument that the spread is occurring here. Surely if the rest of the country is to be locked down, schools ought to be as well.
The timing is strange too. Straight after half term. Would it not have made more sense to do it at the start of half term, allowing 10 days for everyone, including kids, to be on lockdown and limiting the spread. | |
