These people who don't believe there is a virus on 10:40 - Nov 10 by Ryorry | Well, no need to label you either a troll or stupid, or both - you hang one of those labels round your own neck. As usual, you've chosen to ignore the context (which tbf I was sparse with in my first post, but spelled out more of in my follow-up post to you, so you have no excuse for disregarding it). By definition, someone working in the NHS (the context of my posts) who voted Labour would be voting for a party entirely consistent with the values, aims and ideals of their chosen profession - putting care for all above private profit - which would make them intelligent in that particular context. Somebody working in the NHS who voted Tory, on the other hand, has been voting for a party whose politics of austerity, cost-cutting, creeping privatisation and stinginess in paying NHS (and other key public services) is at odds with the values, aims and ideals of their chosen profession, puts themselves and their colleagues at risk, does not pay them in a way that is commensurate with their value to society, and even risks their job security (creeping privatisation). That makes it reasonable to regard them as less intelligent than I had done before being made aware of how they voted. When I mentioned the friend in question possibly having an eye on going into private practice, I'd subtract something from the "less respect for her intelligence quotient" column and transfer it to the "less respect for her decency quotient" column. Nor have I even now "completely written them off" as you snap-judged in your first post to me. We still meet and chat, I see other things in her than her politics. |
You call me ‘stupid’ and ‘troll’ in your first sentence and then go on to criticise me for ‘snap judging’. Truly astounding.

These people who don't believe there is a virus on 10:27 - Nov 10 by BlueBadger | Serious answer, the answer is your old favourite : context. NHS workers voting Tory look stupid because of the reasons I've highlighted earlier one. See also: teachers. Someone on a six-figure salary from renting out property(say) - you might say they'd be voting against their interests by voting for a Labour party which wanted to impose minimum safety standards upon rental properties, additional protections for tenants, etc. Which would be stupid. Probably a half-decent human being for actually being interested in the welfare of the their tenants, but... |
I certainly get that point and would expect NHS staff to be predominantly Labour supporting. There will be some Tories in there though. Same as there will be some Labour supporters who are bankers, stock brokers etc. I’m sure there was a thread somewhere recently about respecting other people’s opinions without insulting them ...

Perhaps if you respected other people's opinions, didn't insult them, and didn't ignore the facts you don't like, you'd be afforded more respect yourself.

I didn't actually, and what I did say was based 100% on the evidence that you yourself posted. The snap judgement that you posted, on the other hand, was based on zero evidence.

One persons insult is another persons misunderstood context. Maybe you just struggle with context more than others. That isn’t a criticism by the way, it is actionable positive feedback.

You've insulted me twice on this thread alone, and I'd been one of the people who'd previously cut you some generous amounts of slack whilst never insulting you. Now kindly stop wasting my time (which I'm pretty sure is one of your objectives, so any further attempts at that on your part will be given the 'shortcut' response).

You probably do, to be fair, and you do engage with what people say from the other side of the argument. I don't understand why you want to speak up for a party which is sleep-walking us into fascist control and eliminating all checks and balances, and I hope that you come to see that that is what is going on. Know this: Johnson and Cummings do not give two flying fcks for you. They don't care whether you live or die. If they did they would have very different policies. They care only for power, for themselves and will give only to those who can enable their ends. They are truly dangerous. Look at how they deselected Rory Stewart by text message because he had the temerity to outline a coherent alternative vision for the Tory Party, and to reunite the country, in the leadership contest. They don't want a united nation. They want division and scapegoats. This is fascism!

The ignorant thing was possibly a little far, apologies. I can’t for the life of me think what the second insult could be. If you think that’s bad, and if it made you feel uncomfortable I genuinely apologise, you should see some of the stuff I get on a daily basis.

It's an "a+b+c+d+e+f=x" kind of article, where we know the values of "a" and "b", and have some hints of what "c" is, and of what "d" isn't, so extrapolate "x". Enough truth to be worrying. Much more likely that there is a rise in populism in some Western nations and some leaders are hitching their waggon to that to gain more control for themselves and their backers. The "download track and trace or be sent to a concentration camp" thing is not, currently, Government policy, but could happen and is the kind of control that I fear and which makes me very attentive to the other steps taken to control the population and remove both human rights and mechanisms for Government accountability. I really don't see any evidence of the socialist "No private property" agenda from Boris and co, though. So a very partial set of data spun out to a worrying conclusion. I'd rather concentrate on what is definitely happening in plain sight here in the UK, rather than need to spin that into some global mega-conspiracy.

It's not anti-Paz. Don't flatter yourself. You're just the latest in a long line of rotters I've grappled with on here. I just point out inconsistencies, hypocrisy and untruthful statements where ever I find them. If I find them more often than most in your posts then maybe that's something for you to think on. Imagine defining yourself by following a political party. That's half the problem here. People fleshing out a poorly developed sense of self by clamping onto a political party like a barnacle. When they win, you feel like you win. It's not the political party who has won, it's you who has won... Finally! It's similar to being a Kent based Man Utd fan in the 2000s. It's sad.
