If you stay on the strip and stare at fountains and volcanoes then that's your issue.

They used to watch the atomic bomb tests from those pools, must have been quite a sight.
Possibly less deadly by the sounds of it.
Vegas itself is pretty awful but a convenient place to stop on the way from the West coast to the nice parks.

Lovely drive, went full cheese and did it in a convertible Mustang. Great fun but an absolutely awful car, steering didn't seem to be attached to the wheels and had to stop every 2-3 hours to fill it up.
America really is a beautiful country although I guess the same can be said about many large countries with varied terrain.

....Red Rock, I also had dinner at a very nice Wolfgang Puck restaurant in Caesars Palace, followed by too many beers at the Ellis Island Brewery and finished off with a Kiss concert at The Hard Rock Hotel.
My point is that you can do whatever you want there.
