New York seems to be giving some mixed messages on C19 at the moment, you are on the ground there so perhaps can explain:
- Apparently allowing up to 10 people to meet indoors in NY is following the science because transmission is easier indoors. This seems like madness and far too bullish.
- Schools have been closed because 3% of all tests are coming back positive. This would seem overly conservative as they have said themselves.
So just seems to be a juxtaposition in what they are saying. Is that what you see or have I missed something?

School transmission rates are probably higher than stated as very little in the way of testing is being carried out. Nor are the mandated testing of ventilation etc. Mrs Moose's school is yet to be tested or inspected. This is a school of 1500 kids in a neighbourhood with a dozen schools. They've already had kids with cases. Schools closed yesterday for an unknown period of time and teachers who were teaching in person had to be ready to go to teach remotely overnight.
The state is desperate to keep small businesses open because of the failure to provide support at a federal level. I don't feel safe eating or drinking inside and from what I've seen many people feel the same. It's going to be a hard winter for that industry. Places are small here. Ten people inside my regular bar would fill it. Now the temperature is below freezing at night outside drinking and eating a has gone off a cliff. Mitch McConnell needs to sign the relief package that's been sitting on his desk since May.
Just my take. There are so many conflicting agencies with different agendas involved that we will never have a coherent response. The plan seems to be to cling on and hope a vaccine is viable soon. | |

Depends on your definition of bad but to me yes they're shocking in some places. These rural areas don't have the hospital capability to cope, and in the areas that can, people who have had covid care could now be stuck with an uninsurable pre-existing condition should the ACA ever get overturned by the Supreme Court.
We will be dealing with the ramifications of this for years. | |
