UNICEF help to feed British children for the first time in their history 13:20 - Dec 16 with 16936 viewsSpruceMoose

It can't just be me who finds this both shocking and appalling? Britain is a wealthy country. There is money available for so many ridiculous things, but not food for some of our most impoverished children?

I can't even begin to get into the mindset that celebrates the unfathomable amounts that Brexit will cost the UK, but at the same time strokes the chin and gets the calculator out to decide that we can't afford to help our most vulnerable through a pandemic. Wonderful.

Damn the Conservatives, damn anyone who voted for them and damn anyone who still supports them.

No, I support the cut in foreign aid.
I do not support a charity telling people they are collecting money to help children in third world countries, collecting said money and then doling it out in Southwark. There are degrees of poverty and help should go to the most serious degrees of poverty. This is not in Southwark.

Are they saying that? UNICEF supports the entire UN doesn't it?

It isn't solely a charity; it's a UN fund to help children across the world, operating in 190 countries.

You don't even understand what it is FFS. You just parrot whatever rubbish you read in the S*n that morning. I know because I read it, unfortunately.

I read it, I just couldn’t decipher what the point was.
I guarantee you these children in Southwark would not want to transport themselves to the countries I am referring too ... no chicken shops selling 6 wings for a quid or 20p loaves of bread in Lidl’s in those places.

Jeez - either you're just trolling, or you lack even the most basic understanding or empathy afforded to most human beings on earth.

In Paz's pea-sized mind, this 25k to Southwark, which has very serious issues with social deprivation, has taken away from the work that UNICEF are already engaged in globally.

I'm not sure who to trust more with an allocation of funds: a global children's charity which is an arm of the UN or some twerp on a football messageboard.

I think if you asked most people what unicef’s function is they would say it is to help people in third world countries. If you watch any of their fundraising campaigns they feature children in Africa rather than London. It’s on that basis they obtain their donations.

It doesn't matter if they are selling gold plated burgers for £0.20 if you don't have £0.20.

We are not saying there is a shortage of food. Anyone can walk into a supermarket and point at the shelves.

Their slogan is literally 'For Every Child In Danger'. Not 'For Every African Child In Danger'.

Their website makes it very clear they are global. If you specifically want your money to go to certain areas they have different appeals. Right now you can send your money to be spent in Yemen, Syria, Liberia, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Or you can donate generally and let the global charity with their global infrastructure decide where the money is needed.

Again, you wilfully ignore the point. There are degrees of need. The need of kids in South Sudan, Somalia or Syria is far greater than those in Southwark. You’ll just ignore this though because the cool kids said I was a bad man.

Talking of willfully ignoring relevant points, any reason why you won't address this one?

UNICEF help to feed British children for the first time in their history by SpruceMoose 17 Dec 2020 21:20
OK. Lets assume that you had Very Real Concerns that UNICEF providing £25,000 worth of food in Southwark meant taking food away from children elsewhere.

How come you ignored every single post that multiple people made that tried to tell you that £25,000 was a drop in the ocean considering the enormity of the UNICEF budget? The money they spend in Southwark does not prevent them helping other children in the slightest. There are no South Sudanese children going hungry tonight because of a kid in Southwark tucking into a Ginsters.

If that was your real concern here, then all those posts (had you read them) would surely have made you realise that your worries are unfounded.

You see Paz, this is why people don't believe you. The excuses and reasons you cook up for your views just don't make any sense. The obvious reason for your objections here here, which fit a very well established pattern you've displayed, is that you will absolutely, positively, refuse to hear any criticism whatsoever about your political party.

You're an extremist. A fanatic.

It was on the radio yesterday.

Although we have had a succession of mediocre governments over the past number of years The United Kingdom remains a fantastic country to live in, if this were not the case then people wouldn't risk death trying to get here even after travelling through mainland Europe.

You have chosen to live in basket case America but love to constantly put the UK down - as do many many other similar Clown Shoes on here. I am sure I am not the only person who is sick to the death of it.

Of course the problem is whose pockets will your £20 end up in if you opt to send it to Yemen, Syria, Liberia, Bangladesh or Myanmar.

I have a massive mistrust with charities these days and it hangs quite heavy on my heart. A few years back rather that give wife, kids and Mother a main Christmas present (because we really don't need anything, it's stupid) I donated a wad on each persons behalf to get a kids eyesight done in Africa per person. After that I was plagued with calls for over a year from one charity or another, it really made me feel quite uneasy - and pissed off.

As an ex pedlar I always knew that the bucket muppets in the street were ripping you a new one but I sort of expected better from a TV advert from the globals. Unfortunately though it is the worst form of capitalism and you are getting screwed.

Even after they have picked your pocket - whose pocket is your 50% ending up in?
