UNICEF help to feed British children for the first time in their history 13:20 - Dec 16 with 16924 views | SpruceMoose | It can't just be me who finds this both shocking and appalling? Britain is a wealthy country. There is money available for so many ridiculous things, but not food for some of our most impoverished children? I can't even begin to get into the mindset that celebrates the unfathomable amounts that Brexit will cost the UK, but at the same time strokes the chin and gets the calculator out to decide that we can't afford to help our most vulnerable through a pandemic. Wonderful. Damn the Conservatives, damn anyone who voted for them and damn anyone who still supports them. https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19-for-the-first-time-in-its-history-unicef-wil [Post edited 16 Dec 2020 13:21]

UNICEF help to feed British children for the first time in their history on 16:32 - Dec 16 by SpruceMoose | So basically British kids should shut up and accept what they're already given because other people in the world have it worse? You inserted yourself into this discussion so I think it fair that you answer at least one question. Why do you think UNICEF need to be involved with feeding British kids at all? |
In fairness I didn’t insert myself into this discussion. If you read the thread you will note I was mentioned by name before I posted. I was leaving it well alone originally as I know this is an emotive topic on which I don’t necessarily agree with many on here. I’ll try and answer your question though. If I had access to a finite amount of unicef food packages and had the responsibility of distributing these to hungry children around the world I am very sure if distributed on a purely by need basis they would go to developing countries where the need is greater.

UNICEF help to feed British children for the first time in their history on 16:35 - Dec 16 by StokieBlue | That will have been taken into account though. I am sure the overall diet of the child would be used to determine who is in need. Clearly UNICEF feel that the food provisions are not adequate. I am sure they do more in other locations where required but the point is that it should never be required in this country. There are 189 countries in the world that are poorer than the UK. It's embarrassing that an international charity feels it needs to step in to feed some of our children. SB |
I'm struggling to believe that Paz's real worry here is that by giving British children assistance other overseas children might possibly go without.

You do know. You're so close to piecing it all together if you just try. UNICEF assist children with food in places where they do not have enough. UNICEF are helping British children, therefore they concluded that some British children do not have enough food. Now, please Paz, think about this and give me a serious answer - Who might be to blame for British children being hungry?

UNICEF help to feed British children for the first time in their history on 16:28 - Dec 16 by 26_Paz | I’m not going to respond to each post individually. I guess my general observation here is that I’m sure there are children in developing countries with less access to food than those who are receiving these parcels. Children in countries without a benefit system, without free school meals, without food banks. My concern would be that these parcels would do more good in these countries that don’t have this other provision. Just an observation. |
So rather than address the matters I raised in what I thought was a fairly reasonably phrased response you prefer not to debate and discuss but want to close with "UNICEF have got THIS one wrong, surely?", do I have that right?

As ever with Paz, he's smart enough to know that if he posts what he really thinks he won't be able to keep up his JRM Mr Politeness tribute act. Instead we get this fake concern and claims of 'I'm just trying to understand!' while refusing to actually engage with any of the explanations he's asked for. He's smart enough to know his views are pretty repugnant, but not smart enough to have a think about why, and maybe actually reconsider them. Ultimately I suspect he finds it easier to pretend to be nice than to actually try to be nice. [Post edited 16 Dec 2020 17:36]

It's the same approach as those who have posted 'honest' questions regarding BLM, only several times over. Never changing their stance, yet eager to learn. It's shallow bollox and extraordinary that they think people don't see through it.

UNICEF help to feed British children for the first time in their history on 18:20 - Dec 16 with 2475 views | sotd78 | 'The grant for School Food Matters will address the gap in current provision for children, providing approximately 1,800 children with breakfast bags during the Christmas holidays and February half term.' This is a £25,000 grant to a Southwark based charity operation. It is not unusual for charities, churches, donors or local governments etc to fund gaps in local activity. That UNICEF have seen this gap and presumably no-one has filled it in a timely manner does NOT mean the country does not or cannot feed its children. There's a load of politics going on here that really should make us all slow down and assess the realities of what is actually going on. It is a scheme to provide "breakfasts" to kids who are deprived. Ask why they are deprived? Then fix that perhaps?

It only ever takes two or three posts until the mask slips. We go from 'Here's an honest question about BLM' to 'That BLM lot are scum aren't they'? Their problem is they think they are smarter than they are. They think they can outwit other posters with clever reasoning all the while forgetting that they are actually utter cretins incapable of meaningful thought.
