It can't just be me who finds this both shocking and appalling? Britain is a wealthy country. There is money available for so many ridiculous things, but not food for some of our most impoverished children?
I can't even begin to get into the mindset that celebrates the unfathomable amounts that Brexit will cost the UK, but at the same time strokes the chin and gets the calculator out to decide that we can't afford to help our most vulnerable through a pandemic. Wonderful.
Damn the Conservatives, damn anyone who voted for them and damn anyone who still supports them.

In fairness I didn’t insert myself into this discussion. If you read the thread you will note I was mentioned by name before I posted. I was leaving it well alone originally as I know this is an emotive topic on which I don’t necessarily agree with many on here.
I’ll try and answer your question though. If I had access to a finite amount of unicef food packages and had the responsibility of distributing these to hungry children around the world I am very sure if distributed on a purely by need basis they would go to developing countries where the need is greater. |  |

That will have been taken into account though. I am sure the overall diet of the child would be used to determine who is in need.
Clearly UNICEF feel that the food provisions are not adequate. I am sure they do more in other locations where required but the point is that it should never be required in this country. There are 189 countries in the world that are poorer than the UK. It's embarrassing that an international charity feels it needs to step in to feed some of our children.

I’m not going to respond to each post individually. I guess my general observation here is that I’m sure there are children in developing countries with less access to food than those who are receiving these parcels. Children in countries without a benefit system, without free school meals, without food banks. My concern would be that these parcels would do more good in these countries that don’t have this other provision. Just an observation. |

'The grant for School Food Matters will address the gap in current provision for children, providing approximately 1,800 children with breakfast bags during the Christmas holidays and February half term.'
This is a £25,000 grant to a Southwark based charity operation. It is not unusual for charities, churches, donors or local governments etc to fund gaps in local activity. That UNICEF have seen this gap and presumably no-one has filled it in a timely manner does NOT mean the country does not or cannot feed its children. There's a load of politics going on here that really should make us all slow down and assess the realities of what is actually going on. It is a scheme to provide "breakfasts" to kids who are deprived. Ask why they are deprived? Then fix that perhaps? |  |
