It starts officialyy from tomorrow but the advice is to follow it from today. The positives from lockdown 1 were reduced cases, clean air, empty roads and family groups going about on bikes and on foot. We didn't see so much of any of that in lockdown 2, I really hope to see all of them again in lockdown 3, though the time of year and weather is likely to put off some people from going out and about on foot and bike.

That's because people were trying to find 'tenuous' ways around the rules than actually follow them, there was a genuine fear factor during that first lockdown, so in the main there was a lot of conformity. I doubt very much this third lockdown will see much change in some people's behaviour in comparison to lockdown 2. There still appears quite a lot of shops that will remain open too. Don't think traffic will reduce. Will be a lot more going to work as usual this time. Everyone l know has to carry on normally. Most of the individual estate l work on is back to capacity, and can't see that changing. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
The A14 & A12 this morning ... on 09:10 - Jan 5 with 871 views | Guthrum | There's an awful lot of people who cannot work from home, plus businesses which are not set up for them to do so (e.g. remote access to databases). There are more builders and tradespeople than you might think - who are specifically allowed to continue.

Ditto with schools being open yesterday. The virus doesn't like Mondays.

I'd agree with that. I'm sure we've all done something (very minor) that we probably shouldn't have throughout this. But there seems to be quite a number whose hypocrisy knows no bounds. Will lambaste the government and others at the same time as they are incapable of taking any personal responsibility whatsoever. [Post edited 5 Jan 2021 9:20]

Michael Gove on the radio this morning was strongly hinting at much, much stricter border controls than last year. Possibly even closing the borders.

I think the word 'essential' means very different things to different people.
