Lamberts payoff 10:43 - Jan 24 with 6867 views | Bent_double | None of us know the details of that terrible 5-yr contract ME gave him just over a year ago, but the general assumption is that there will be some kind of break clause that kicks in - hopefully very, very soon. But even if there isn't, and say PL is due a cool £1m payoff, surely he's not expecting it in his bank account the day after he's given his P45? Surely ME can come to some agreement with him that it's paid in 6 months/a years time, or even in instalments if he's concerned about the cost - especially with the added cost of the incoming manager. Lambert's already financially secure, but we know he's also not adverse to taking former employers to court, but even he must be reasonable and understand the financial situation that we (and football in general) are in? Mind you, if I were Lambert, I would be embarrassed that I was still taking a wage for the extremely poor job I was doing, and I'd quit. He's got a great excuse - Covid has knocked him for six, no-one would blame him for quitting now citing health as the reason.

Lamberts payoff on 15:37 - Jan 24 with 1773 views | jeera | Small Claims Court. £1 a week, which is more than he deserves. As others have pointed out, this is his last pay day possibly so he's gonna milk this fecker for all he can. There's no matter of pride to be considered there.

Lamberts payoff on 12:31 - Jan 24 by Radlett_blue | While Evans has generally been incompetent in football matters, you would think that even he wouldn't have been so terminally stupid as to give a failing football manager a 5 year contract without a reasonably affordable break clause. However, presumably he will also have to pay off Taylor & Gill, although I wouldn't expect them to have huge contracts. Evans's style has been only to pull the trigger when someone looks like taking Town down & I would be surprised if anything happened until near the end of the season, when there will be huge upheaval among the playing squad. |
I agree. You don’t make the amount of money that he has if you’re not a shrewd businessman. Being a successful football club owner requires a different skill set...

Lamberts payoff on 15:06 - Jan 24 by abracaDOBRA_ | Out of interest, do you usually know when a manager has been sacked? Like given the word so you can write up an article? I seem to remember the Hurst one being a surprise to most. |
No, whispers got around with George Burley, Joe Royle's departure came out of the blue, Jim came as a bit of a surprise timing-wise, heard about Roy from a couple of sources before they announced it the next day if I remember rightly. Jewell was announced in French by Cheick Kourouma on Twitter and Mick walked out midway through a press conference. Hurst, I think we all knew it was coming and it was only a matter of when the axe fell on the day after the Leeds defeat. Not expecting it tomorrow with PL but I don't think we're many bad results away.

Lamberts payoff on 17:03 - Jan 24 with 1665 views | Meadowlark | I would have thought that any such contract would have certain targets that need to be met by given dates. A contract is two-sided after all. However, even if this is the case, it would be doubtful if any target can be actually achieved by January 2021 therefore we might have to wait a bit longer to see the back of him, if Evans Above doesn't want to pay unnecessary compensation. I hope I'm wrong, and that his contract can be terminated due to lack of performance.
Lamberts payoff on 17:56 - Jan 24 with 1616 views | JammyDodgerrr | If we assume Lambert is on around 800k a year. That's over 3m to pay off his contract without even paying off back room staff. It's no surprise ME is waiting until the last minute if that's the case. I may be way off but wouldn't be a surprise to see him on that level of pay.

You honestly think he's on as much as £15k a week and that we negotiated a deal that means we have to pay up his full contract to get rid of him? The £15k may not be a million miles away (others have suggested it's around £10k though) but there's no way that there aren't clauses in his contract that allow us to sack him for less than the full value of his contract.

I'd assume we'd have clauses that reduce the pay off but likely to be performance related I.e miss the play offs. Even if it's 500k a year that's still over 2M, before you take in Stuart Taylor who is probably on 100k a year at least.

Lamberts payoff on 14:51 - Jan 24 by PhilTWTD | Yes, ME will want to wait until that point, too important to go up this season. I don't think it's far off. |
He'll have to do it eventually. One thing that I know about Lambert after watching him at Villa for so long is the guy just will not quit, no matter what.

I don't see why we wouldn't? What's the point of the contract? Lambert will have protected himself, as he did when he got the contract in the first place. Very happy to be wrong on this.

Still nearly 2m less than Sunderland are having to pay a player who barely played for them about 10 years ago. Just get it done and have a whip round. SB
Lamberts payoff on 19:21 - Jan 24 with 1479 views | Itfcforme | Lambert will be there to the end of season we will finish mid table and with no crowds until next year a new manager will be able to clear out in the summer because next season with crowds of perhaps 10000 there will be little money for new players

Sure, Lambert will have wanted to protect his side, but surely ME got something in return, eg minimum acceptable number of points/league position at certain times during the contract, and if that's not met, ME gets to terminate on his terms, not Lamberts. Let's just hope the first of those times comes after the mid-point of this season, or earlier if it's a 'minimum of 40 points from 23 games' - impossible once we lose to Sunderland on Tuesday.

Ending last season early probably blocked an escape route for Marcus Evans. Lambert struck it lucky. We must be close to the point where Marcus Evans can’t afford not be rid of the ......
