If it drops hard it might gap and your stop loss will not count for anything.
Plus there has to be someone who wants to take your shares which if it is tanking hard may not be the case. |
Sold my gamestore at 400% up and AMC at 300% up in the end. Can re invest that way. Trading 212 is a terrible app by the way, always out of service when the American markets open. |  | | |

Essentially a reddit group decided to try and break the short-sellers who were driving down the price of the stock. They aren't really looking to realise any profits, just to put the short-sellers out of business. They have succeeded to some extent with regards to stopping some institutions short-selling the stock.

It's not terrible. Gross exaggeration. Clearly, their success is the reason why they have had issues of late. I would question how long you've been using it, if you think it is terrible. | |

I am in. Had mates who have jumped in at $60 and now about to open at $350ish today which is absolutely insane. Not talking a small investment either so likely to make a £40k profit in a day, bonkers.
I am also in AMC which looks like it will open at 250% of the close yesterday which is great news. Blackberry and Nokia likely to see big increases as well. I am still learning about the market, but this is fun. |
Theres a theory that AMC as well as other “meme” stocks are being pumped by the GME shorts to encourage people to take profits out of GameStop and switch their money to them. Would be very wary of that one once the GME bubble bursts and they no longer need the distraction.
Not proper financial advice, take with a massive pinch of salt etc!

The interface is good but it’s irrelevant if you can’t get onto the app in the first hour once the markets have opened. I intended to cash out my shares in ACM on opening at $20 from $5 the previous day, however, because I couldn’t get on it was $16 before I could.
This has happened a few times lately as well. Private investors would have lost a lot of money today in this period. | | | |

I use HL for my S&S isa but not great for smaller trades due to the transaction costs. Use t212 for them as a bit of fun really but wasn’t that fun at 2.30pm this afternoon! | | | |

If you really want to ruffle some feathers you should go after silver. Although i'm sure law enforcement would be on you within a week if you tried that. |

I have a reasonable sum.invested in various green ethical companies and companies producing 'hopefull' covid and other illness solutions.
I do about two hours study every day into those companies but still don't proclaim to understand half of whats going on with them.
The "shorters' are a horrid bunch. They post negative messages and sometimes outright lies on the various forums in the hope that private investors lose nerve and sell their shares prematurely which serves the shorters position.
When I invest I am.hoping that the companies I invest in will suceed which in turn will also benefit me financially.
The shorter is trying to make a profit in the company failing and in the worst cases actually contributing in that failure.
These hedge funds and market makers have been able to manipulate markets for their own gain for too long. What happened this week caused some hedge funds to lose literally tens of millions of pounds. Nice that the little man has at last burned a couple of hedge funds. Surprising how quick the institutions are rallying around their greedy masters.
If a company fails the?n so be it, but to bet on.it failing just seems wrong to me. |  | | |

I can see why someone would short Tesla now. It's hugely overvalued. However, as this GameSpot thing is demonstrating, the backdrop is changing as investment habits change and status quo of money men is sort of gone as investing is so accessible.
I always thought shorting was conceptually interesting and based on individuals doing complex analysis of the market to identify overvalued stock but it feels like Wall St and the city just get a consensus on a widely held short position and then it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Perhaps them getting burnt on this might keep them away from big shorts on the high street. |  |

You really have to take that place with a pinch of salt, before Gamestop it was basically as you say, people talking absolute nonsense and doing crazy stuff. This is the first time I can think of where they've collectively done anything.

That would be great. It’s not beyond the bullion banks to short an entire year’s supply of silver in one day though so I would be surprised if they manage to do too much damage.
