https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2021/01/28/astrazeneca-vaccine-site-belgium

AstraZeneca’s vaccine production site in Belgium was raided yesterday at the request of the European Commission, as Brussels continued to heap pressure on the British company over delays in jab deliveries.

Belgian officials from the country’s medicines regulator inspected the factory on Wednesday afternoon

The EU have messed up big time on vaccination. They are well behind the game, are under pressure from their population and are desperately trying to shift the blame!

It’s highly politicised and could easily get well out of order.

Just this language alone suggests this is going nuclear:

"Asked about Mr Gove's comments, a commission spokesman said: "We're not going to comment on statements by UK personalities. "

It is interesting that both the EU and AZ seem so confident about the contract details. They can't both be right, so who's lawyers have fcked it?

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

The EU are acting like the bully at school who forgot their packed lunch.
So just trying to steal it from everybody else.

The money the government have invested in vaccines is the one thing they have done really well in this crisis. It was a gamble investing into something they may never work. The Eu left it too late to invest and now are paying the price.
What a cheek to moan about future shipments of a vaccine that they haven't even approved yet and have been even slating its efficacy.

The EU have been remarkably slow they did even reach agreement on purchasing Pfizer vaccine until 11th November.

Interesting read.

They've had a slow start, but the numbers in many EU countries (e.g. Denmark 3.7% of population, Spain, Ireland , Slovenia all 2.9%, Italy 2.6%, Germany 2.4%) are comparable to us here in Wales (3%). I'm not sure whether that says more about the EU or Wales/UK relationship though!

Considering they started late, they're on track to make inroads into that league table (and are well ahead of many other countries around the globe). Not that there should be a league table.

The argument is getting silly though. I thought both parties had agree to work together to resolve the bottlenecks and reach a compromise.

It says you need better people in and around the Welsh government.

Slowing the rollout because they don't want vaccination centre staff standing around doing nothing if there is a shortage down the line is utter stupidity.

That was a mind-numbingly stupid excuse from the First Minister. I'm assuming it was a fib to cover for not being on the ball, but I could be wrong. I can't see any reason why you would want to hold any vaccines back. It's hardly like you're suddenly going to find 100,000 new over-70s you didn't know existed.

They were supposed to have had a stockpile ready ahead of approval in U.K. but it didn’t happen. I’m sure AZ will fulfill the EU order by the agreed date making up for the slow start in production at their plants within the EU.

Bizarre.

First it was a mistake made by a minister and now it's policy even though AZ and Oxford say there is a wealth of data available that it works.

I guess that means they won't object to it being exported to the UK now given they don't need it for their absolute most vulnerable.

Right? Right?

Sigh.

and now the germans have banned giving the astra Zeneca vaccine to over 65 year olds. So surely they will not need as much now.

They're effectively asking our older population to test it for them. And give them all our doses.

Actually, this is beyond farcical now - they're behaving disgracefully.

Double sorry - missed the ft link above.

On the basis of the regularity this happens (i.e. with every outsourced contract I've ever had dealings with*), I'd said 'lie' is the word.

I'm sure your experience backs up your lie comment on the whole, but it appears to be utterly inappropriate in this case.

Easier for hardcore remainer to think AZ are wrong than the EU. Not a massive shock. If AZ are telling the truth about the contract then they've not lied at all.

The hun even ordered 30m of vaccine outside the EU procurement framework. One might speculate this is because they knew how long it would take otherwise.

I think this has shown the EU is like a bodybuilder in a world of athletes. Very strong but not very quick. They wasted a lot of time and are now trying the brute force route.

Other times the strength will be the asset and being quick won't matter so much.
