Lee O'Neill 21:55 - Feb 11 with 6282 views | JDAndCoke | What is the issue with Lee O'Neill? Genuine question as I've never understood the constant negativity and criticism that comes his way? All I ever seem to read is 'Evans puppet' (let's face it, ME is his boss and clearly he will therefore take instructions from above) and 'P.E teacher'. I personally think he comes across as a thoroughly decent guy, always speaks well and honestly in the media, clearly very knowledgeable on the football side of things too and he has something a lot of our past CEO's or whatever title you want to give them didn't have - a genuine love for the club. I genuinely find it intriguing how certain people at the club are portrayed from the outside in various ways. For example O'Neill gets dogs abuse purely because he works closely with Marcus Evans yet Bryan Klug is seen in a completely different light when in reality we as outsiders know very little (I appreciate their roles within the club are very different but it's purely an example of how we see people from the outside).

Is that likely to change do you know? Are we likely to see somebody in a CEO role at some point, assuming we stay at the level we're at?

Lee O'Neill on 10:02 - Feb 12 by itfcjoe | I haven't said he does the football side well, we don't know in reality where the lines are. But for those saying Klug doing a great job, O'Neill has been the academy manager, i.e. Klug's boss, for 5-6 years |
To stand up for Lee on footballing matters where they are going well, the performance of the academy teams has been good, U18s and U23s are both second as it stands and the latter have dropped away as their squad has been weakened in the last couple of games due to the addition of the 'reserves' squad. And there are plenty of youngsters in and around the team, which is the main aim. Also the women's set-up has also been a success in the last couple of seasons, and that is something which he has been responsible for putting more of a focus on. But, of course, if the men's first team isn't performing then everything else is a sideshow.

Lee O'Neill on 14:10 - Feb 12 with 821 views | BlueWorldOrder | I think he's done pretty badly since appointed and comes out with absolute cooperate cover nonsense to hide from the fact the club is falling apart. He's not up to the job it doesn't matter if he's a nice guy the results do not lie.

Whilst he is, he should be judged upon that. Not like it has only been going on for a month.

Unlikely I'd say in terms of a CEO but other roles could change so there is a spokesman in a Terry Baxter type manner.

He is the figurehead for 'the club', as opposed to 'the team', as it stands, which I'm not sure he was entirely prepared for when he took the role, so yes in that sense. But ultimately the lack of structure comes down to ME, of course.

Why has he done badly? The first team is failing yes, accepted, virtually every other part of the Club that we know comes under his remit, the academy and junior teams, women's team are not failing and if anything doing the opposite. Just because the first team is managed by a charlatan I doubt he had any say in is failing doesn't mean he's doing badly. I don't get the ire for the bloke.

If the manager had us in the top 2 playing decent football nobody would be haranguing him.

Agreed, we clearly need structural changes in the way the football club is run. But how to do that? The only avenue I see is to put pressure on those positions that need that structural change. Unfortunately for LO'N, that means pressure on him, rather than just calling for the manager to change. That wouldn't be enough, in my opinion of course, for us the facilitate a sustained turnaround.

We're in our lowest league position since 1953. Pretty much any representative of the club coming out and telling us "everything is essentially fine" would get grief.

I think it would certainly help, and there will be potential candidates who will be keen for the structure to be changed. Whether ME will entertain opinion along those lines remains to be seen.

Lee O'Neill on 09:35 - Feb 12 by tractorboy1978 | He isn't 'in charge' of anything in any true sense in reality. That's the top and bottom of it. |
O'Neill is in charge of the Town academy & the sports science department.
