There's plenty of material. Using the postponement and not playing tomorrow just dilutes and undermines the clear, legitimate reasons. We also don't need to rely on unsubstantiated nonsense fromTwitter either. Look how many games are off, and how few will be played tomorrow: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scores-fixtures

His time will come soon enough. Let's try stay sensible in the meantime.

Northampton are playing as we speak. Why would they give any consideration to our situation on their own matchday? They'd be within their rights to wait and see how their own players are.

As StokieBlue has already posted above, the sensible thing to do would have been to wait a few hours to analyse the situation. From all reports I’ve read it seems we just jumped on the bus as soon as we could.

Yes but there's a lot of stuff flying around. Much of it will turn out to be nonsense, as is often the case.

I don't care about whether or not we could find some pasta or enough hotel rooms in Shrewsbury. I care about playing two games in three days, all hangs on whether Northampton would play ball if we wanted to move the game to Wednesday and they are playing now. They'd be within their rights not to make that decision today.

I may be wrong, but feel you’re overplaying moving a game by one day. Why wouldn’t Northampton want to move a game to a day later? Again, would have been no harm to wait around for a bit and scope out all possible options rather than a 5 hour journey home.

As I said, check how many of the other postponed games will be played tomorrow.

An unexpected overnight stay is not the ideal preparation for a must win football match. Every game should be treated with respect and prepared for fully, which Lambert would be bashed for if he didn’t do. It may seem like small things, but the wrong food tonight, no-one packed for an overnight stay, the wrong food pre-match tomorrow, etc. all adds up to an unfamiliar surrounding and they need all the help they can get without that.

If all the other managers are being criticised for not playing tomorrow, then fine and I stand corrected. If you’re desperate for them to play so Lambert is sacked sooner, that’s also fine. But let’s not turn this into something it isn’t. It devalues the argument and plays into the club theory that we’re all negative Nigels with a chip on the shoulder.

Two of the three matches rearranged for tomorrow were made yesterday and it is likely that Accrington would travel to Lincoln on that day anyway. Perhaps Shrewsbury should have arranged a pitch inspection yesterday as they surely would have if there were away supporters to consider ? Not that is gets around the Northampton situation.

It would give Northampton a day less to prepare for MK Dons, who don't have a midweek game, next Saturday. Everyone has their own motivations and priorities so it'd be wrong to assume the ball is always in ITFC's court on everything.

Forget Northampton, that could have still been played on Tuesday

It's the fact we have a squad of 50 players we could have easily played two games in a space of a few days

It now appears players didn't want to play tomorrow, clearly coz of valentines day

Shrewsbury don't have a midweek game, we do. Why would we do them a favour and impair our own season?

We don’t have a squad of 50 players. By all means write a long list in reply to this, but if Lambert picked one team tomorrow and an altered / different one on Tuesday, he’d get hammered for it. Any manager would. I’ve seen a team suggested with Cotter for goodness sake! Why would we voluntarily go into a game with a) not our best team, whether that be tomorrow or Tuesday, or b) volunteer to play two games in three days. As others have said, there’s no guarantee of the move to Wednesday. We’re losing enough games without sabotaging our own chances even more. How many sensible professional football clubs would willingly and unnecessarily put themselves into a situation like that?

Surely if the EFL confirmed it was ok to move it to tomorrow, then the moving of Northampton would have been confirmed to no?

Northampton would have every right to refuse (and reason to) at such short notice - in a similar way to how we have for tomorrow. The fact they were playing at the time, it’s far from practical to be decided then. But besides that, the main point is there’s no advantage to us playing tomorrow, far from it. Criticising Lambert for it is only happening because of his other failures, not because of the actual matter at hand.

No i'm asking as the EFL said tomorrow was ok, had they checked with Northampton and they said yes to moving to Wednesday

You're right to point out that if we had played tomorrow and Tuesday, and Lambert had made loads of changes for the second match, he would have been crucified for it.

"Why can't these players play two games in three days, they're athletes.."

From Klopp down to a League Two boss, none of them would agree to it if they didn't have to. If you can find an example of a manager voluntarily agreeing to play two games in three days, then well done, because I doubt it happens more than a handful of times a season.

Northampton played today. The idea we could sit in Shrewsbury waiting for them, as they do their warm-downs, assess any fresh injuries and do their own media stuff, to decide if they want to move a match later in the week is just daft I'm afraid.

Lambert is a terrible manager and we all want him gone. But he doesn't control the weather. Nor does Evans.

I think what's made it worse is the reports that the official gave the ok to play but asked Shrews to look at 2 areas

Lambert then apparently took the ref round the pitch and pointed out little pockets of areas.

Yet the Shrewsbury press are reporting that they wanted to play tomorrow and it was Ipswich who came up with reasons why they couldn't.

Are the press also unsubstantiated nonsense?

How busy could a hotel in lockdown be?

It was just all very quick. I don't see why they couldn't have waited an hour or two, spoken to Northampton, sorted out the hotel and got both matches on.

That's a paraphrase of what the Shrewsbury chief exec said, that reporter was stood next to me when he was speaking. Seems the hotel had to get staff in especially for Town last night - I assume a lot of hotels have furloughed everyone - and that it was going to be an effort for them to do it for tonight.

Shrews Chief: Small Areas of the Pitch Hardened Up 13th Feb 2021 15:32
Shrewsbury Town chief executive Brian Caldwell has explained the reasons why today’s game against the Blues was called off with referee Lee Swabey feeling that some small sections of the pitch were unplayable, and also why plans for it to be rescheduled for tomorrow fell through. 14

Waiting a few hours to analyse the situation and speak to Northampton would have been the sensible thing to do rather than immediately saying no and heading home. If it wasn't possible then by all means head home but not even exploring the possibility when Shrewsbury wanted to try and get it on isn't ideal.

To be fair, it wasn't immediate, even if it wasn't hours before a decision was made, there was a fair amount of discussion and I assume phone calls before the decision was made.

Fair enough, thanks for the clarification of that tweet.

The hotel furlough is a valid point. Just seems like as much effort should have been made as possible (which perhaps it was) given 40 people or something had travelled during a national lockdown for the fixture.

Agreed. Fans saying lets play tomorrow probably have little idea of how much actually needs to be organised for a professional game to go ahead.
