4 goals in 5 for Big Kieffer Moore on 17:25 - Feb 13 by Herbivore | Moore made it clear he wanted to go. It's not like he was itching to get a few minutes off the bench here and there for Town. At the time he was well down the pecking order and it was decent business. It's taken a few years and another season in League 1 for him to be doing a decent job in the Championship. |
I don't imagine it would've been impossible to persuade him that things might be different by the Summer. I don't think you can qualify something as "decent business" if the same player is sold on for three times as much 18 months later.

4 goals in 5 for Big Kieffer Moore on 17:17 - Feb 13 by Nthsuffolkblue | "I doubt those were on that much." Try this set instead then? Adeyemi Tayo Edun Will Norris Mark McGuinness It is about what we are paying balanced with what we get out of the player and the long-term effect on the playing squad. We have something like 55 first team players at the moment - that is ridiculous. How many squads have gone up utilising around 15 players all season (cups included)? |
3 of those were loans which are a completely different type of signing to what the poster was referring to. I agree they were all pointless signings those Adeyemi is a bizarre comparison, and looked to be a very good signing until he became the latest Ipswich player to get injured and never recover Completely agree the current squad size is ridiculous as per my other response in this thread [Post edited 13 Feb 2021 17:55]

Moore made it clear he wanted to go and Mick couldn't exactly make any guarantees to him about the summer could he? His own contract was up and he left the club. Moore wanted to be playing regularly, which is fair enough, and that wasn't on the cards with us. Of course you can say it was good business, we got what was a decent fee for him at the time and we got further money through a sell on as well. Had he spent 6 months playing for our under 23s and we'd then let him go, how much do you think we'd have got for him?

Also, Moore looked bloody awful here, Drinan reminds me of what Moore looked like in a town shirt Good for him he's turned it around and is doing really well, but when he was here, he didn't look half the player he looks now

We recalled him from Rotherham to sell him, didn't we? If we'd left him there scoring, he'd likely have been worth as much if not more in the Summer.

He came back so we could review our options, which included potentially having a look at him here. However, when he came back Moore made it clear he wanted out when he knew there was interest in him. More money and regular football, hard to blame him really. And let's be honest, he tore up no trees with Barnsley in the Championship after we sold him.

4 goals in 5 for Big Kieffer Moore on 16:13 - Feb 13 by J2BLUE | We didn't give him a chance when he came back from his loan. Just straight out the door at the first sniff of a few hundred k. |
But at the time there was no realistic chance he was going to replace Waghorn or Garner. Plus he wasn’t actually that good when he was here. It’s only because he’s improved over time that makes selling him seem so silly. Some you win, some you lose. Who’d be a football manager huh!

What do Ipswich Town pay all these staff for if not to spot (and then develop) underlying ability?

Players don't tend to improve an awful lot when they aren't playing though.
