What's the infrastructure we are missing? on 12:52 - Feb 17 by swede | Whatever it is that is missing, it is clear to so many in football including our ex-managers. The problem clearly is the Marcus Evans Group. Failure under Keane, Jewell, McCarthy, Hurst & Lambert. The pattern is plain. Swede junior has been a Town fan since he was five years old. He is currently employed in a senior management role at a Championship club. Because of his love for the club he interviewed for the same role at ITFC even though the salary was less. After the interview he phoned me and said "Dad, I won't take the job if they offer it. The whole set up under Marcus Evans is wrong." That told me all I need to know about the management of the club I have supported for over fifty years. |
I've known people in the Evans years who have worked for the club on the IT side of things and have left due to the chronic lack of investment in very basic things like Cyber Security.

Did he laborate on exactly what he thought was wrong with the club setup? I'd be interested to hear that.

What's the infrastructure we are missing? on 12:59 - Feb 17 with 547 views | Herbivore | It's interesting that he thinks there needs to be a conversation about this now, 2 and a half years into the job and surely on the brink of sacking. If there were glaring issues, why hasn't he sought to address them? For the sake of foregoing half of the current 6 loanees we could have employed a few backroom staff instead. If Lambert knows where the club needs to invest to bring about sustained success it's a failing on his part that he's not done anything meaningful to change things.

What's the infrastructure we are missing? on 12:54 - Feb 17 by Kieran_Knows | I think that was only because of the pressure from Hurst to do it. It shouldn't have been in that bad of a state in the first place, I think that's the point? How does a club of our size/stature run such a poorly equipped gym/Sports Science department? We should have that infrastructure in place already, if there was a DoF or Sporting Director to oversee the day to day running. |
Yes, great, the infrastructure should be there already but... Lambert isn't some passive agent in all this. He's literally the only figure in the club in any position to get this stuff fixed or demand that appropriate people get hired. He's clearly demanding enough when it comes to his own contract and seemingly when it comes to assembling this enormous bloody squad. Was it really beyond him to say "you know what, a competent Sporting Director is probably better value to the club than Oli Hawkins"?

It was basically that the management structure was very different to that at his employer and other clubs he knows. Too much was controlled by ME himself and influenced by others in the ME group and not the club.

Lambert runs to the media every time it suits him but it’s gnome then when it’s not in his favour. Full tilt Blue Action. Time to put this charade to an end; we know you’re real fans really.

He has in the past mentioned he wasn’t happy that the teams below the first team don’t play in the same style as the first team. This doesn’t help players to step up from the Lower age group. He is of course absolutely right. The first team coaching is out of line and needs changing. Marcus Evans can put that right in an instant by sacking Lambert and his coaching staff. Let Dyer and Butcher loose on the first team from now until the end of the season. Nothing to lose and everything to gain. If it doesn’t work out we won’t have lost anything.

What's the infrastructure we are missing? on 12:49 - Feb 17 by hoppy | Is it the fact that English is the language used at the training ground and at the club in general, and not the more efficient German? |
If there is one thing that bucks German efficiency is their language.

Lambert has periodically sounded off about this ever since he's had the job, usually after a couple of bad results. It all seemed designed to create the idea that there was a huge reconstruction job to be done at PR (not necessarily of the first team squad) & that Lambert was willing to do it, but it would necessitate a 5 year contract. Without Lambert going into the specifics, it's hard to say what should have been done. Now, with the first team still hugely underperforming after Lambert's been here for 2 years, it looks more like a smokescreen to deflect attention away from that. A huge contrast to Lambert's "Marcus has been brilliant" line which he used to trot out regularly.

"We all need to get round the table". To which the obvious question is, "why didn't that happen 2 years ago if it was all so terrible?"
