You've had a bit of a shocker in this thread, but your appreciation of the Lotus Biscoff may have saved you.

I don’t think having an opinion on the idea of Skuse becoming manager is much of a shocker, just the usual people attacking people with a different view.

Do you like the normal Biscoffs, or the biscoffs with biscoff cream inside?

I don't particularly hold Skuse, Chambers or any other player as being significantly responsible for our recent decline, but... I've got to admit I find it confusing when people seem so keen for them to continue being involved in the club.

Like, why? I don't get it.

I would suggest it’s a very small minority that would be keen, but ultimately, proven managers have failed, so whilst all odds would be stacked against them to succeed, I can see the appeal in expectations being much less from the fans. Maybe, given all that’s gone on, that wouldn’t be bad.

Let’s face it, Pearson wouldn’t have come here, we won’t ever sign someone like Saha and will rely on our academy for our quality, why not promote the manager from within too? (If they have the skills obviously, not just on a whim)

Wasn't just the lack of experience I was referring to really. If we're appointing players without previous experience as a first team manager, there are plenty of ex-players that have spent at least some time getting coaching qualifications and working in lower status coaching roles. Lots of them were far better players than Skuse and made big contributions to much better teams.

I just don't get what you'd latch onto for either him or anyone else currently playing for the club?

I understand what you're saying, but then you mention "far better players than Skuse" which is very obviously not an indicator of how well they will manage/coach.

I'm not saying Skuse, Chambers or Dyer are the answer.

However, if you were Evans, you'd probably have a very close eye on what someone like Dyer is doing, how he's regarded, how organised he is and has he actually made a tangible difference. You don't get that kind of insight with external appointments until afterwards, and look what that's done so far.

I think Dyer, Skuse, Nash...whoever...they shouldn't be dismissed because they haven't got experience and i'm not sure, but aren't all qualified enough on paper to do the job?

So what happens is.....

Some attention seeking TW4TD weirdo posts some rubbish about being ITK and that Lambert is getting sacked at 14.55 on Wednesday and at the same time our new USA takeover will be announced.

This rumour is then tweeted by half a dozen TWTD odd bods and eventually is picked up by a national journalist.

The national journalist then tweets this information whereupon it is reported on here as a man in the know with definite info.

This is what happens isn't it.

Spot on.

Harry Redknapp as manager and the Dutch consortium were two recent examples where this happened.

To be clear, my question mark here is "Why Skuse or Chambers above other inexperienced former players" not "why anyone inexperienced". Since none of them have managerial careers to point to, surely their playing career is all there is to go on?

Observing from the outside in, yes, all we have to go on is their playing career, but i'm sure there's lots us fans don't know about these players.

Playing careers aren't a great indicator of managerial or coaching ability. The two skill sets are quite different. Successful footballers often struggle to cross over. I don't know if you're aware, but Lambert is a Champions League winner, he's played for some huge clubs, unbelievable pressure, he knows what it's all about. And yet he can't manage for sh1t.

I think if going inexperienced person with connection - then it needs to be someone inside the club currently personally.

That rather limits your options down, I think both Chambers and Skuse have committed to coaching badges, Skuse especially done a lot of work with underage teams and outside the club and they would work as a pair no doubt. Personally I think that, Chambers especially, wants to continue his playing career as long as he can.

But other than a Dyer/Butcher partnership, with support from the academy, they are probably the next best internal candidates if going that route. They have the respect of the players, and everyone inside the club at all levels - and that would be a big uplift from what is thought about the current management team

I don't think playing career is a good indicator of managerial ability, no. But, if you're discounting playing career (and I agree, you should) then what positive case at all is there for Chambrers or Skuse? I don't get it.

The plus points are that they know the players and the club inside out, and both seem to be intelligent and decent blokes, which goes a long way. I'm not saying that I think they should be considered, I don't, but that would put them ahead of most other just retired rookie managers from outside the club. However, Cowleys or Cook for me.

Harry Redknapp has never really been Marcus Evans go to man anyway.

It was David Pleat.

No wonder we've never been able to find second gear.
Pleat never could either...
