One thing that gets overlooked is our Debt 19:33 - Mar 1 with 4414 viewshype313

New ownership is essential, especially as Evans has given up the ghost, but one of the many benefits is the fact that the £100m debt is going to be wiped out, if nothing else that is a huge positive for our long term prospects.

But we need to remember that there's this (approx) £8m that Evans reportedly puts it that will need to be found, reduced or managed somehow otherwise we'll quickly return to debt again.

I did a few days back if anyone knew what the annual deficit actually is how much of that Town had covered in transfer fees over the past 10 years

There was a lot to be said for the Evans deal, if only he had appointed a knowledgeable board who then appointed a knowledgeable management team right from the start and he then disappeared into the shadows with no football input whatsoever, club and Evans could have been big winners.
This new deal is going to be sht or bust if it goes ahead.

Some of that £8m will be interest payments to service the debt. If the debt is wiped, some of the £8m current account deficit is wiped, too.

Yep, look at someone like Joe Lewis leaving Daniel Levy to it at Spurs

Evans has run ITFC like a club in the 70s, expecting a manager to run the whole show

One thing that’s overlooked is that the debt we currently have does not require servicing.

Evan’s contribution on that front is VASTLY underestimated by those who don’t understand how he’s structured his funding of our club.

Aside from what people think about he’s run the club, I doubt we’ll ever be afforded that luxury ever again in our history.

I don't think that's true, there is a vast difference between the roles that Bobby Robson had and, for example, Mick or PL. Robson really did run the club from top to bottom, chosing things like the boardroom carpet to negotiating contracts and doing transfer deals. Really don't think Mick or PL did much off-field stuff at all, even contracts or transfers, let along carpet selecting.

That's not to say that the manager wasn't largely the figurehead and the 'face' of the club and the structure was very under-developed.

Does this deal worry you at all Phil?

I think people are excited about seeing the back of Evans but forgetting the fact he's bank rolled the club to the tune of 100m over the years.

From what Matt Slater said on the podcast earlier, he believes their plan is to produce money from the transfer market. So does that mean a Brentford model, which I think we can all be happy with, or does that mean they'll sell big to then reinvest that money in operating costs?

It's hard to imagine they'd be happy bank rolling us losing 6 or 7m a season like Evans was, as where does that money come from?

If we are to sell players in order to run isnt that what we’ve been doing the last X number of years?

When we’ve made money on transfers MEs hole to fill wasn’t as big yearly

It's never been an issue, the intention has always been that it would be wiped out, as always tends to happen in this situations, Bolton's former former owner, for example. It really has been nothing but numbers on paper.

That's essentially been the model we've tried to work to anyway, to a degree. The five-point plan was about bringing players through, using them and then selling them, as well as picking up players from elsewhere and developing them, which is essentially what Brentford do, although in their case with a greater concentration on data.

In order to push the club forwards and increase its value - which is the ultimate aim - they will have to be investing, a lot of the money will be coming from a pension fund in the states.

I'd be happy with that Brentford approach for sure. It's obviously the way to go and kind of what I'd hope would have happened. Obviously need that proper recruitment structure in place to really push that on though and you'd hope there is some investments there.

It's hard to imagine they're going to come in and start spending relatively big sums of money on players.

It'll be interesting to see just how they go about things.

It will be. I think it's important they've got experienced British club people involved as it's not an easy path to grow a club from League One to the Premier League. The Championship is a nightmare of a division financially, as we know from our last spell. You're talking having to throw in £20m a year to have a wage bill which is up with the higher ones in the division.

Although £32m of the £100m is debt Evans inherited when he bought club, so presumably Norwich Union or Aviva have him under contract to repay that...plus interest.

So if debt from before Town went into admin is still around you have to ask how long the Evans debt will sit in the books somewhere?

Let's hope so then but you never know what contingent liabilities are present until the crystallising event brings them to light. I'm guess that the interested parties are having some late nights doing due diligence on this type of thing given the opaqueness of Marcus Evans dealings.

There's madhouse and Eddie downvoting these two posts regarding interest.

What is it you both think you're disagreeing with?

Evans hasn't charged any interest on the on going 'debt' for years.

There's been some discussion of accruement on the initial debt from early on but that's relatively small and certainly not what you are claiming.

How can you not know any of that after all this time?

You're repeating stuff that was cleared up years ago.
