There's lots of dead wood to clear out, and the squad needs to be a lot smaller, even without the salary cap. But does anybody know his former teams well enough to make intelligent guesses about whether there might be any reasonable transfer targets from them in the summer? Are there players that he has already poached once from a former club for instance?

Welcome Paul - now lets drive this team into the play-offs; key words from Marcu on 12:30 - Mar 2 with 673 viewsunstableblue

These words from Marcus are telling:

“He knows he will be working with a squad of players that is as good as any in this division and I believe Paul will bring the ENERGY, THE ENTHUSIASM and the experience that can fully enhance our promotion aspirations.

“As well as having a history - and ongoing desire - of developing a winning formula, his teams have played IN A STYLE WHICH IS TOTALLY IN LINE with the club’s ambitions to develop an Ipswich Town playing ethos"

Let's hope Marcus has finally got a management selection RIGHT for the LONG TERM, and with a playing STYLE we can all get behind

I thought "fully enhance our promotion aspirations" was a touch too boardroom for me, "get us charging into the playoffs (or better) and a thrilling promotion" would have been better!

I'm bloody delighted by this. Cook has been my preferred choice for a long time.

I suppose he’s ok? I feel slightly underwhelmed but I think this may be because he has never done much higher up in the game. Couple of good promotions though. I know nothing about how his teams play.
But hey what do I know, I was delighted when we appointed Lameberk.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Hoping to see a *lot* more of these from us now instead of PL's WW2 rationing level of 'em!

That was probably more like Cardiff's "until the end of the season" stuff. Two-and-a-half years is fairly long term, in the modern era.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Interesting that Cook turned down Cardiff & Sheffield Wednesday for a 2 year contract at Town, where the obvious brief is promotion within that time. The comments in the official statement "He knows he will be working with a squad of players that is as good as any in this division" particularly damning about Lambert's reign & make Evans decision to give the obviously stuttering Lambert a 5 year contract as bizarre as any I have seen in football.
Also that we are now trumpeting that appointing a manager with experience of getting clubs promoted to the Championship, rather than from the Championship, shows how far Evans's ambitions have fallen during his ownership.

This

I wasn’t convinced he was realistic either until this week either, so very pleased. Only real worry is that I think he could look upwards if he’s successful here, but that would be a nice problem to have for a change so no biggie!

No doubt a good appointment especially as he has been linked with arguably better jobs. You would like to think with our current squad and to be honest not a great league he can get us promoted.

I think he was offered deals to the end of the season at the other places, and who knows what discussions have been held with the new owners. Maybe they've sold the vision to him.
