Without a doubt that is the best post match interview of any Marcus manager 23:37 - Mar 9 with 3187 viewsunstableblue

I have been crying out for this level of honesty, insight, and just reality

I am very very impressed by Paul Cook as a man

Yep, look forward to seeing the team after he’s has a few decent training sessions. He’s only really had one so far due to all the games!

It’s a refreshing change to have someone in charge who appears to enjoy life and football. Unlike his chippy sour-faced charlatan predecessor

So obvious that ideas, passages of play, speed of breaking and overloading areas around the penalty area are his number one priority in training. Lincoln defended really well last night. But we simply did not threaten enough and create enough chances.

In theory it'll take a good 4-5 weeks of training to get anywhere near what PC will want,
With midweek games, what's he getting, 1.5 days of training per week?

Game Sat, rest sunday, light train monday, game tuesday, wed rest, Thursday full training, Friday rest/Prep

They’re coming so thick and fast as they say, you’re right there is very limited time.

What was pleasing last night is the team ‘turned up’ against for me probably the best team we’ve played this season (Cook rightly describing Appleton as a modern manager - bang on! A guy I rate). Gills was concerning, but Cook had them motivated, and in the opening period we were still playing the better stuff before Lincoln went into the ascendancy.

I liked that he tried Lankester to give us spark - perhaps Dobra next. Bennets had moment against the Gills last night he was too well marked and looked flat. He needs someone else beyond Bishop to be breaking the lines and penetrating.

After the long trip to Fleetwood on Tuesday (we need 6 points from that game and Plymouth on Saturday. We have two weeks of no midweek games (if you don’t count good Friday). Which is going to great for Cook and the team.

There is still the little question of Pompey away - the out of form under pressure manager Pompey - before Paul can really get hold of them!!

A very interesting end of the season ahead. Goals is our problem - can Cook fix it!!

Whilst I appreciate Town being in league 1 isn't exactly where people want us to be, but I still think there are to many that don't realise it's not just a league table showing us we're in league 1, it's a fact that our team itself is a league 1 side and doesn't compare to any previous town side in the past ( Not in my lifetime anyway ) reason I bring this up, is you're reply is refreshing in that you are of the same thoughts as me that the likes of Lincoln are indeed one of if not the best side we have played this season. There are comments on Social media about Lincoln being a conference side only a few years ago, well yes, but look at them, grown and grown and they are a really solid side. I felt we shocked them in the first opening 15 minutes, afterall the likes of Downes, Dozzell, Bishop haven't had a game as a midfield 3, and Bishop hasn't started with a roaming attacking role, so Lincoln certainly weren't expecting it. Once appleton changed things slightly they began to open us up and it showed. What impressed me was yes we didn't create much, but we remained solid, our shape was superb, we didn't give silly fouls away. Creativity will come I have no doubts, it's definitely a confidence thing with Town as none of our midfielders are capable of taking a shot from outside the box, etc.

Not to forget, Lincoln have only conceded 10 goals away all season up until yesterdays game, so we weren't exactly going to have chances galore anyway. When Lincoln visited Portsmouth in Jan, Pompy only had 7 shots at goal and 1 on target. 0-0 Draw
Against Hull, Hull had 0 shots on target 0-1 win to Lincoln

So bare in mind this side is learning something new and pretty much learning on the job, it was a very acceptable point to gain.

I was surprised by the inclusion of Lankester, he hasn't shown much for a while, but like Cook says, clean slate for everyone so that includes everyone regardless of past thoughts. However I don't think personally he did himself any favours, he was ok, but he's not the answer although I couldn't tell you what the answer is.
I'd like to see Dobra given a chance, after all he can't do any worse than others and at least he likes to be direct and score goals.

People were very impressed with Lambert as a man when he first came in.

Before I start joining in with some of this I'll wait for some form of improvement on the pitch.

What I love about PL first press conference

"PL: I don’t feel pressure. I never feel pressure really in any game I’ve been in. Even when I was a player I never really felt it. I played for some massive clubs so I know exactly how pressure goes and I know how management pressure goes."

It was Lambingo right from the start

Basically it was all about Lambert , wasnt it . Can’t say I’ve noticed Paul Cook talking too much about Paul Cook. He only appears to focus on the team - as it should be .

It's funny when you look at his relationship with the media, from the very first day he 'laughed' at them and said Stop asking about norwich it was 7 years ago'
It was rightly pointed out that his other jobs before Town were quite short in comparison hence the norwich questions and at one point, the press guy had to say to the room 'keep it about ipswich' when al the media were doing was asking what he would bring to Ipswich from his Norwich successes.

Lincoln crammed the central areas forcing us wide and not allowing us space in the middle. One thing I noticed was that when our centre backs had the ball it was much much further up field that would be Taylor made for Woolfy if we can get him firing.

What did annoy me a bit was that at times Lincoln backed off and let us run across the face of the penalty area and not once did we have a go for goal if they are defending that penalty area line and giving you 5 yards of space have a shot it might fly over the stand but equally it might go into the top corner or deflect and wrong foot the keeper, it will also mean teams will have to come out and close that space allowing for quick passes to get into the area or drive past that player.

Yeah, but people revelled in it on here at the time, which is kind of my point.

Not a winner though is he? As 12th_Man would say, 2 games and still waiting...

Agreed, he making all the right noises so far. He's going to be hamstrung by what he can do this season due to our lack of attacking options. If he can get any of this lot creating and scoring regularly he'll be a miracle worker.

Lambert was pretty chipper when he first came in - and was for several months.

Most managers start of bright - it’s only when things don’t go to plan that they change.
