March book thread 12:24 - Mar 12 with 3352 views | footers | Calling all book botherers! What have y'all been reading recently? Always good threads for a bit of inspiration and recommendations. May I double recommend something the Moose mentioned a while back in Gospel of the Eels by Svensson? It is a book about eels and jolly good it is too. An eel will never cross my gullet again. I've currently got Rabelais and His World by Bakhtin on the go, with Puckoon by Milligan as a re-read on the side for a little light relief. Next up is Malevich - Artist and Theorist and Memories of Gascony by Pierre Koffmann - one for the gastronauts out there. Any good recent reads, TWTD?

March book thread on 17:24 - Mar 12 with 1752 views | ADStephenson | I've been mustering up the courage to mention on the board that I have recently finished and (self) published a novel, so if anyone would like to read that, I'd be most grateful. It's a light-hearted crime thriller based around a footballer turned detective. A friend and I wrote it during lockdown, and what started as a joke soon became something that we thought was actually (at least) half decent. It's got good reviews so far, so it can't be all that terrible. Plus there are a few subtle ITFC references in there. I promise it's better than the premise makes it sound... It's called A Cloud Can Weigh A Million Pounds - the cover is my avatar image and it is available on Amazon. If you do read it... be kind! I'm not at all good at self-promotion or sales and find it all a bit embarrassing but I guess if I don't tell people about it no one will know about it.

So long as you're not Steve Bruce, I'll check it out. :)

I'll read it, I've published a few things on KDP so always good to stick up for another self publisher. Hopefully you'll get some traction and earn a bit from it.

It's funny you should say that... Part of the reason for doing it was because we've read the superb reviews of the Steve Bruce books by Seamus O'Reilly (although haven't read the actual books). We did ask Seamus if he fancied reading our effort, but he never got back to us. https://www.balls.ie/amp/football/steve-bruce-novel-293169

I have a confession to make. I'm reading the Discworlds in release order. Having recently read 'Small Gods' I found it the weakest of the Discworlds so far. Can anyone tell me why I'm wrong about this...?
