Time to forget the past now 17:15 - Mar 15 with 5785 viewschrismakin

Bit of a shame regarding take over but also could be a blessing when you have no idea how it would have ended up. Lots of clubs have gone onto better things following a take over but plenty have gone the other way even more so than us under Evans.

Time to get behind everyone at the club now. We hope ME has learnt from Lambert in regards to structure and hopefully Paul Cook will also be vocal and get things in place we need.

Agreed.

They couldn't even do the easy bit which is buying the club, so I doubt they were out saviours.

The key is why did it stall

Did they fail the efl test.
Did one of their main funders pull out etc.

Could end up being a blessing that's all I'm saying. Not that Evans is great but I'd rather have a club in league 1 than a folded club

The thread title of "Time to forget the past" is like Christmas Carol ending with Scrooge still in cancel-Christmas mode. It's the years of unreformed, misspent waste we are wanting to forget, not a future which has been stalled, or even denied to us.

But ME hired Cook. So. You would unfortunately have to give him credit when PC succeeds whether you like it or not.

End of day your gutted about a take over not happening where we had no idea who was potentially taking it over or what their actual plans for it were.

He’s hired a guy who has managed 3 games.

We have absolutely no idea if cook will be a success under him, but history tells us he won’t be.

What do you want from ME now? What has he done in the last 14 years of absolutely sheer hell that makes you think that there is any future for this club?

Lol you must be joking

First manager under ME with a proven record in England with no gaps in employment and no negatives. And the ability to do it with clubs with similar financial restraints like ipswich.

The early signs are that Cook might do alright but then the early signs were that Lambert might too.

It could turn out that Cook is a very good or even wonderful appointment but it does seem a little early to decide that he cannot fail.

Takeovers are always a gamble so those assuming it was always going to be a walk in the park are naive in the extreme.

However when the current ownership has seen nothing but decline you have to say the gamble is worth taking..nothing suggests we will improve as a club under Evans, if anything the opposite is true or at the least more likely.

Lambert was an awful manager employed by an awful owner. We still have the awful owner with a manager who we have no idea if he will be joining Mick in the only manager out of how many to be vaguely successful despite the owner.

No, you are of course correct because he did not get a win in either of his first two games and any good manager would win at least one of the first two wouldn't he?

No. I'm not asking about first 2 games. I'm asking what he did to make you think he was going to be successful.

I’ve one of evans harshest critic... especially with regard to his weak/ineffectual CEOs and manager choices.

But that US consortia wasn’t seeming right to me, wasn’t Phoenix taken over in 2017? Still awaiting a low budget 10k stadia for a second tier US soccer side. Questionable CEO at Bristol City - albeit probably better than any we’ve had under Marcus. A strategy that was nothing to do with Ipswich community.

Marcus seems to have finally hired the right manager - time will tell. If he can put someone as CEO, and a replacement or better remit to ONeil.. then perhaps we can prosper. With necessary funding.

I did not say be successful I said that early signs were that he might be alright just like the early signs are that Cook might be alright.

Apart from the fact that we were in a higher division at the time, so far there is little difference between Lambert's first few days here and Cook's first few.

Admittedly Cook got a win in his third game and he might turn out to be good here but I am just saying that I do not understand the assumption that he WILL be good here.

Eh? Mccarthy is a better managed than Cook, for starters.

It would be nice if Cook eventually proved himself to be at least as good as MM here but we will have to wait at least another 14 months before we can judge that.

Oh dont get me wrong. I'm gutted. But likewise there are so many occasions where club take overs falls through.

Just saying I'm hoping Marcus has learnt something and it's a wake up call he needs.

But plenty for us to be positive about going forwards despite the take over falling through.

[Post edited 15 Mar 2021 17:26]

He has literally learnt nothing in 13 years, why on earth do you think he will start now ? Cook is a positive, but it will be even more soul destroying when we fail to land his transfer targets in the summer and pad out with loans again.

Personally I’m hoping this is all just negotiating tactics, ME probably bumped the fees as we are in a play off berth.

The only Muff in Town.

Yes! And look at the disgraceful reaction on this board to his statement. Everyone branding him a liar on the back of "TWTD understands...". He doesn't say nearly enough to fans, but that's no reason to call him a liar when he does give us an update on what's going on.

Base your opinion on known facts, not on conjecture and gossip.

He will have some way to go. Only managed at smaller clubs so far in lower leagues generally.

McCarthy whilst much further into his management career is some way ahead of Cook. Like you say, Cook has an opportunity to prove himself on a similar level and if he does we will all be happy. Massive if.

Yeah wigan up and would have kept wigan in championship had it not been for points deduction

Pompy up from two
Chesterfield up from two then playoffs league 1

Amazing cup run which would be nice for us to see for the first time in what 10 years lol.

Cooks a very good manager and we are very lucky to have him. Dont forget he turned down championship job offers.

What championship jobs did he turn down?

So to clarify, he has got Wigan promoted from League one. He has no other experience.

So far he's been a lower league manager. There's a chasm between him and Mccarthy so far.

We are a lower league club.

Mick was a solid appointment at the time for where we were. Cook is that same sort of hiring for where we are as a club.

We are not a lower league club. We're a second division club based on history who have been grossly mismanaged. This is why so many of us want Evans gone. You seem happy to defend him and then spread the myth that we're an average club who belong in league one. It's simply not true.

I havent said we belong here. I said we are lower league club which is true. League 1 is lower league. You only have to compare the potential wage limits they were looking to bring in to see the different the efl sees between the championship and league 1.
