Gutted to hear the takeover is all but off from Phil on Naked Radio 18:34 - Mar 25 with 17258 views | Mullet | I genuinely think this will be a moment that condemns our club to long term suffering, even more so than removing MM for Hurst. The more I've thought about it, the more I feel like Evans' fortunes have picked up more than he anticipated and getting in Cook made him optimistic he could turn it around. Only days ago someone messaged me to say it was back on and only weeks away, but I wonder if they've got old news and mixed it up with a development. When I spoke to them more there were no details to refute that it's dead. Hope is probably keeping rumours alive now isn't it?

Cook finally is the best manager appointment we have made, and will likely give us a short/medium term lift, however whilst he also has to be the communications officer, the chief scout, the head of recruitment, the contract negotiator, the director of football, the tools around him to ensure he can be his most effective, will undermine. Keeping the club solvent is not ownership and stewardship, it’s the bare minimum, and that’s what we have been for years - a do the bare minimum club. Others, even those considerably smaller than us are innovating to remain competitive. We just don’t have an owner or structure with the nous, vision or ambition to do that. Hence decline in ultimately inevitable. Evans has said in his last interview (about a month ago) that the structure is in place. The fact he said this, and it is abundantly clear that it isn’t, is a classic head in the sand moment, and example of why we are where we are. I will always personally choose an option of a chance out of this god awful 14 year cycle, in which every year at the point of season ticket renewal I tell myself it can’t get any worse can it? And every year it does bar one, which ultimately ended in a kick in the nuts from those up the road. |
I agree. Evans is not stupid, stupid people generally don't become multimillionaires (unless given a silver spoon at birth) However, Evans didn't build his empire by checking up on his business ventures here and there to see how they're getting on. Surely by now he should realise this makes running a football club impossible without being actively involved.

I agree, given his wealth Evans is not a stupid man. So, as an intelligent man, what is he using the football club for? After all these years of decline, there must be a reason why he is still here. It’s ridiculous. Regardless that and of speculation, the club will be in League two within two or three years and out of the league a few years after with the current direction of travel. There’s nothing to stop it now. It’s finished. Cook is almost an irrelevance. I hope he has a bit of magic about him and performs an against all odds miracle, but I suspect when Evans let’s him down in the summer he’ll be gone soon after. He will if he has anything about him which I think he has.
