Gutted to hear the takeover is all but off from Phil on Naked Radio 18:34 - Mar 25 with 17238 viewsMullet

I genuinely think this will be a moment that condemns our club to long term suffering, even more so than removing MM for Hurst. The more I've thought about it, the more I feel like Evans' fortunes have picked up more than he anticipated and getting in Cook made him optimistic he could turn it around.

Only days ago someone messaged me to say it was back on and only weeks away, but I wonder if they've got old news and mixed it up with a development. When I spoke to them more there were no details to refute that it's dead.

Hope is probably keeping rumours alive now isn't it?

you could have the most beautiful house in the world, but if the foundations are only 30cm deep, ultimately the house is gonna fall down.

ME is a sht owner, and as long as he is here we really are supporting a pointless club.

I want to be on board with Cook, because he deserves it, he deserves the best support we can give.

Oh yeah, nothing on Cook in that post, just you have to do an outstanding job to paper over the cracks at this club. That's a tough old gig.

We just in the main end up getting in peoples cast off's certainly in the last few years. Players who can do a job but are going to see out their contract and be happy with their lot.

This is how I see it too. Bottomline is ME has got us into this position after 14 years at the helm. He’s had his go and he’s come up woefully short. You look at us and we look a club that appears tired and desperately needs freshening up with ideas and investment as he has quietly allowed that slow deterioration. Disappointedly, our club isn’t going to see an upturn until ME moves on. PC might get some success on the pitch, but he’ll hit a point under this ownership where any team success will then just see us flatline. It’s not just on the pitch though, it’s most aspects within the club that needs looking at. Wasn’t it a cleaner at NASA that said to JFK, ‘I’m here to help get a man on the moon.’ I just don’t feel the club has that collective mindset and ethos to see us be successful due to the continued failings and messages from the very top, the belief and faith isn’t there.

ME, you’ve given it a good go, however the time is right now for you to step aside and let someone else have their turn.

If years ago in the bowels of Carrow Road they'd constructed a Trojan Horse designed to bring about the terminal decline of Ipswich Town it would have been called Marcus Evans.

Piling failure onto failure this chump of toxic hubris has taken the football club as low as it's ever been but like a tinpot dictator finds letting go the hardest thing to do.

If for exceedingly wealthy men owning a football club is the penis extension equivalent of buying a Ferrari then Marcus Evans has turned Town into a dysfunctional flap of lifeless foreskin.

Everyone can see it except the ego maniac responsible.

So the nightmare must continue. It cannot though last forever. One day we will be free.

This

"I want to be on board with Cook, because he deserves it, he deserves the best support we can give"

I get on board to support the players on the pitch and hope and pray I enjoy the game (it's entertainment after all).

It's a simple process.

Surely though, if it went as far as EFL and it's fallen down since, doesn't that just prove something dodgy came up hence why it's broken down
Isn't it a blessing that something's been picked up now rather than down the line with a new owner where we could end up like a Bury for example

We've been through this before, the EFL will only be interested in the background of the new owners, their intentions and ability to fund the club. They aren't interested in the minute terms of the deal, how much Evans receives, what land is included as part of the deal etc. The intricacies of the deal will still be under discussion after it goes to the EFL and there are many potential sticking points.

I’m no lawyer but that seems fairly libellous to me. What have you based this proof of dodgy dealings on?

It's a shame of course, but we knew so little about the takeover, it's hard to me to feel too sad about it. No idea how much money they have, what they planned, the idea of potentially loading us with debt and then moving on to make money, money coming from the pension pot etc. Let's hope ME finally, finally, realises what a good manager he has and really starts to give us the funding we need. Or at least we go up and become a more attractive proposition.

After 15 years i will not be renewing my season ticket until that guy is out of the club. Paul Cook won't succeed here, which is a massive shame as he is a class manager and probably the best we've had in a while.

I still think the deal still has some weight as of yet. Just makes no sense why Brett would interact with ipswich fans still..

because he want to do the deal and Marcus doesn't?

I think the next few weeks will show us what backing Cook has, who departs, it's a fresh slate.

Throwing in the towel is the most unfair way to treat a new manager.

Give the guy a chance, if he can change the squad and we see an improvement, surely that's worthy of saying, look Marcus, you messed up last time you didn't back a good manager, NOW is the time not to make the same mistake. The actions then will speak.

We must be one of the most depressing teams to support in the whole of the EFL. Us and Oldham as a matter of fact.

Yes, there's teams in a far worse positions that us (Bradford, Bolton, Wigan etc) but at least they had had some sort of success within the last 20 years. Playoffs, promotions, cup finals/wins! Premier league. What do we have? A semi final against Arsenal and a Paul Anderson goal against Norwich, wow.

Was hoping this takeover would be the "start of something new" (no high school musical pun intended) but the fact that it's likely off just resigns us to League One/Two football for the foreseeable

I for one am fully behind the team, christ i travel away most weekends. Mates think i'm mad for doing so, considering we're the least successful team in the last 20 years. But i can't keep pumping thousands a year just for Evans to not take notice and think the club dying is okay. Whats fans don't realise is its the next generation of fans that are the affected here, no young child wants to go watch ipswich anymore and lets be honest i wouldn't wish that upon on them.

"Give the guy a chance" if you're referring to Evans here then i've given the bloke plenty of chanes and have been a backer of evans for years compared to other fans. But if you want to back him that's fine, it's a game of opinions but he's going to get a massive shock come season ticket renewal time.

I don't think it's at the all but off stage, it's still under discussion. Had a bit of an ask around again today and there still seems to be a bit of an impasse. But that's not to say an agreement might not be reached. As I said last week, on what I was told initially I expected it to have been done now. I think it's drifting but not yet dead.

Much as I would like to see Evans removed, anyone who is looking to buy a football club with a view to selling for a profit somewhere down the line should be treated with a large degree of suspicion.
I'd love to be proved wrong but, unless you're buying into a Big Six club, there is very little return on most investments in the English game. As Evans would no doubt testify.
Evans is incompetent but he hasn't put the club at risk yet. At the very least, I'd want the same assurances from his successor. And when I hear talk of rebuilding and then selling the club once we get promoted to the Prem again, I immediately think what happens if we don't. What will they sell then to recoup their losses?
I'm certainly not going to put much stock in PR stunts and the liking of fans' tweets.
Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of Evans and we need change but if this lot can't make the deal happen, then maybe they aren't the owners we're looking for.
