As it's been pointed out via PM that some may have misunderstood me on here I thought I'd do something a bit more fun and lighthearted and put a Ipswich 11 from recent years which I rated and would have liked to have seen.

Now try it with 4-2-3-1. Apparently its the only formation which works.

I thought Niles was under utilized while he was here. Bishop of 2014-15 was very good though. Niles was somewhat hampered by having to play alongside a slow midfield of Skuse and Douglas, while one works as a DM you couldn't have both in there and it didn't work when we did. The previous season we had Anderson and Hunt in the mix who were more advantageous going forward. In fact Anderson made most of Murphy's goals and still found himself jobless at the end of the season! I suppose had Fraser been fit he'd have been an upgrade.

I spose the past 5 or 6 seasons?

It would be overrun with ease.

I don't see how. They are three Premiership quality players in my view. You don't always need to have holding midfielders to make it work if your defence is up to it. You win games by scoring goals ultimately. Lawrence kept us up he was so prolific and we didn't even have players like Mings, Cresswell and Murphy was sold not long after he arrived. He'd have done even better in this side. A fit Fraser would own the Championship too, and nearly did with us.

The term ‘holding’ midfielder is a relatively new thing.

Most teams do need central midfielders who can tackle and win the ball - but not one who seats just in front of the defence and barely ventures anywhere near the oppositions penalty area.

Yes and it is frustrating to watch.

IF I had to play a DM/HM type i'd probably go for a midfield of

MF - Fraser
CM - Downes
CM - Bishop
MF - Lawrence

At least you'd still have some spike in it going forward.

Nobody has called me out. I had a very nice message from someone who had understood what I am up against and how I was being misunderstood. It was very helpful and made me feel better about things.
