So we've officially given up on promotion then. Sensible decision.

“It’s not ideal for us or Alan because I would have liked to have had him available for us over the rest of the season,” Town boss Paul Cook told the Club website.

“I told him we are not in a position to trigger that extension to his contract and because of the situation, we won't be considering him for the remaining games.”

That makes sense. Unless Judge is confident that he can get a good contract somewhere else, I wonder if he could agree to cancel that clause so that he can play for the potential to be offered something here or elsewhere. Put himself in the shop window as it were.

Going by this he probably didn’t want to compromise??

It's a shame we've done this just as he was poised to start Ripping Up The Division.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

It's an interesting read because it says one more start would have triggered the clause. Will he not be on the bench instead or does the club think that is somehow unfair on him?

It would be 1 more appearence, so even off the bench would count i'd imagine

Good to know that it was not for the reasons being wrongly guessed at in the original thread.

Good luck for the future Mister Judge and pity it did not work out as expected/hoped here.

Thought it was unlikely to have been released before the end of the season, but given the clause it makes sense. 100% not staying for next season which another game would’ve triggered, so fair enough, let him go now.

Oh, my apologies.

That is a very very good point in that case

We did that last May when we failed to sack Lambert.

...or May 2019!

As he has made

29 league starts - 5 subs
0 FA cup - 1 sub
I League Cup - 1 sub
I other ?

I can only assume it is 30 league starts that triggers the clause. Which suggests other clauses with other players, which may well explain some previous odd decisions.

The question also arise that is it because we have to offer him another 12 months on the same contract (unaffordable ?)

or is it we don't think he is up to it as a player ?

Not sure if my "Sensible decision" comment has come across as sarcastic. It wasn't meant to. I agree with the decision to no longer select him.

But irrespective of anyone's opinion of Judge's contributions, he was being utilised, so to remove him means we have officially prioritised not paying his contract over promotion, which you would only do if you have given up on promotion.

We can still select him if we really need him, we just name him as sub and bring him on after 10 seconds. Plenty of subs available.

Or more realistically he can still come on as sub at any time.

I would imagine it's appearances instead of starts.

Truly impaired.
