If we went up... 13:34 - Apr 18 with 2028 views | TheBoyBlue | ...would we be the most undeserving team to ever get promoted? Which considering Wycome went up having finished 8th last season would be some claim. That we're still in with a shout is a shocking indictment of the standard of this division, but it's not inconceivable - though incredibly unlikely - that we could sneak into the play-offs. Even then, it would be improbable that we'd get the better of two teams, but imagine if somehow we scraped 0-0 draws and went up via penalties. Surely there would never have been a less deserved promotion?

If we went up... on 13:40 - Apr 18 with 1807 views | jayessess | If Cook manages to get 5 wins out of 5 from this group of players from where they are now, then somehow fight our way through the play offs against 2 teams who've had our number quite easily all season, then he'll deserve a gold statue in his honour! (That we're still in with a shout might as easily be a sign that there aren't many whipping boys in the division. We're still in it because MK Dons can beat Portsmouth, Wigan can beat Sunderland etc.)

I'm not sure we'd even need five wins. We're one point closer after another draw. 2/3 wins and the rest draws and if those above us drop points (which they have, hence why we're somehow still in touch) and it might be enough. As you say, Cook would deserve a statue with this bunch of players!

If we went up... on 14:02 - Apr 18 with 1757 views | J2BLUE | Wycombe. In free-fall. Voted to end the season knowing they wouldn't make it if they played on. Got lucky in semi final versus Fleetwood with their red card. Somehow won the final.

Hopefully the manager will do better than the bloke that has been in charge for the last eleven games then.

And they’ll still end up with more championship wins and points than we managed in our relegation season. An important reminder as to how fooking awful we’ve been the last few years.

Lincoln and Blackpool having got themselves out of reach, to get by on 11 points you'd need Pompey, Charlton, Doncaster and Oxford all finishing the season quite badly, very badly in Charlton and Pompey's case. Even if we take all 15 points, Pompey would still take the spot from us with just 11 from 5, Charlton with 13 from 6.

our side of the bargain simply isn't gonna happen, but pompey and charlton wouldn't be confident of 2 points per game at the moment if it did...

Charlton didn't look all that much yesterday and after the initial new manager bounce, Pompey seem out of sorts again. It is all so unlikely though.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Wasn't it Sunderland who went up instead? Think Swindon were even initially demoted to the third tier and so a team from there were due to go up to the second tier, but then their punishment was reduced, so that didn't happen. How do you plan in those circumstances?

Yep. There was a poll recently asking how many goals we'd score before the end of the season and I put none. Partly in jest, but it really wouldn't surprise me. So yes, this bunch won't do it, but still it's shocking how little we might actually need to do to go up.

It's possible that one of Oxford, Charlton, Pompey and Doncaster finishes badly enough to end up behind us even if we only win a 2/3 more games. The chances of all 4 doing so are 0. [Post edited 18 Apr 2021 14:59]

Oxford seem most likely at the moment as they're the ones being most consistent at the moment, but again it is possible that they stumble too.

Charlton have a tough run in and Oxford have a game less, so it’s feasible if we won 5/5 we would be above them. I can’t see us catching Pompey though, they’re 4 points above (effectively 5 with GD) and their run in is nice. IF we won all 5 it’ll be close, I would imagine 6th place will finish on 74 - 77 points, but it’s a moot point anyway as there’s not a cat in hells chance we will. We’re not good enough. You can’t be drawing blanks against Rochdale and Wimbledon and expecting a top 6 finish. 7 points from the last 8 games is absolutely garbage. Should’ve been double that as a minimum.

Look at Portsmouths run-in.....I’m not even sure 5 wins would be enough. And we won’t anyway.

In the same vien, but at an international level, Yugoslavia had qualified for the European Championships but were kicked out due to the Yugoslavian war, with Denmark taking their place at the last minute, so last minute that their star player elected not to bother playing as he had already booked his holiday and they had no chance anyway. They won it.

I remember clearly being at Glastonbury (92,I guess) watching the final on a normal sized TV perched on top of a car in one of the "streets" not far at all from the Pyramid stage,in fact I think literally next to it .... whatever they were selling (possibly scrumpy) the owners had put underneath the TV the latest score on a piece of cardboard ... it read .... We could do with another of those three wins on the trot out of nowhere runs! Still, as you say, even then, probably won't be enough, but it's crazy to think we even stand a chance after how bad we've been.
