Maybe not the brightest
But he may be a 20 goal a season striker in this league and he has that Animal in him that wants to win
So it's a yes for me for next season just need two Strikers to complement the squad as rest are poor

'I struggle to see why anyone wants to keep him personally.'

If this is true then you are clueless. Sorry, but really clueless.

We can't literally buy a whole new playing squad, as much as everyone wants to. Being so casually happy to let our best striker leave is plain odd.

No one has said he is the answer. It's quite possible he might be replaced in the summer as first choice. People just point out what he is, and that's quite clearly a striker who will score goals at this level when he is given chances, and sometimes not even then, as we've seen this season.

You calling me clueless is a compliment to be fair.

He was fully fit (ie not carrying an injury) at the start of last season and was scoring goals. In the previous season at Tranmere he was fully fit - and scoring goals. Therefore, I am expecting him to score goals next season if he is fully fit, as he has done to an extent this season despite hamstring issues.

He had a groin injury that ultimately needed surgery when we signed him. I'm not sure this fully fit version of Norwood even exists.

I guess they wouldn't be so forgiving if they'd had family killed by a drink driver.

Yeah but his internet bantz isn't at an epic level is it?

I'm only half joking when I say I suspect the reason a lot of folk like Norwood is because he'd be a laugh to have a pint with, and he's inspiration for all the out of shape lazy blokes out there that they too can be a professional footballer.

I get you have a moral issue with him, but frankly you have no idea whether he's out of shape and have no basis for calling him lazy.

Parts of your arguments are justifiable. Other parts are nonsense.

I missed the cup goal, my bad. Still not exactly great. And I just don't think he's very good based on his 2 years here, and he has fitness issues, and he seems to be a knob, and we're paying him a fortune by League 1 standards for not much return.

Everyone has been panning the squad and 2 years of underperformance in which Norwood has played his part, a couple of goals against a hopeless Swindon side and now he's the answer all of a sudden. I struggle to see why anyone wants to keep him personally.

Is that a squad that you were continually saying while lambert was here was good enough to be promoted , your words not mine

No reason other than all the jiggling and drunkenness you mean?

There's no point me talking to you about this because I know you have a thing for him and will excuse every single thing he does. So you do you and I'll just quietly think it's entirely predictable silliness from you.

So the other doesn't count?

Ok, well the police said he was well over the limit on the current one?

That ok with you? Or will that only count once it's been through the formalities?

Praise his game by all means, but don't try to excuse that behaviour as though you're on some moral high ground.

As I said on another thread, the things that some people are willing to overlook just because some bloke is mediocre to decent in a given area, be it football/music/entertainment, blows my mind.

Well before passing judgement , surely it’s better to wait until the court decide , better people than you or I in this matter to decide, who is on moral high grounds , until he is convicted you know as much as me which is nothing

On the flip side, might we have been a more effective side if he could actually hold the ball up and genuinely keep CBs occupied rather than just pissing about and wrestling with them? His link up play isn't great, especially when asking him to play as a lone striker.

Wrong. His link up play is decent and he’s perfectly adept at holding the ball up. Norwood’s one touch passing to bring others into the game is consistently on show each game as is his strength to when the ball goes into him. He’s a handful and that’s what you need to be playing up top on your own. The fact we rarely have willing runners to support is where the criticism should be focussed.

You moan about his physique, his character, his social media behaviour, his indiscretions, his hair, everything about his game...

We get it, you don’t rate him but your personal vendetta is kind of pathetic.

I don’t know him personally or what his actual fitness levels are compared to others but when he’s been in the pitch he’s always hassled and chased so I never see a lack of effort, just a continual injury situation that’s required surgery.

Players sometimes get those periods in their careers, no issues there.

I do have an issue with the alleged drink driving, that’s stupidity, but I then don’t know his actual character behind the scenes (and you can’t point to SM as that’s a facade too many people hide behind, myself included at times...it’s a release,I have time to be argumentative or play devils advocate for the sake of it).

I still think he’s a decent player and our creativity issues are why we’ve not scored, nothing more...no striker has had anything to prove themselves with.

He’ll be here next season and will score goals.

He was 28 when we signed him and never played a decent standard. He’s now 30 and hardly pulled up trees for us.

Get rid.

Move on.

I reckon if he has a decent pre season and can regain his previous fitness levels, given the tight service in the box, he’d quite possibly be close to 30 goals for us next season at this level .

Not all the players that will play fit us next season ( assuming we managed to get promoted next season ), would then play for us in the Championship. Norwood would fall into that category. But you have to have players that can deal with the bully boy tactics in league one.

Of the players likely to survive the summer clear out , that would be a “strong physical presence” for us next season, I’d list the following.

Toto
Downes
Nolan
Norwood

That’s nearly the spine of a team . Add just a couple more beef stakes to that spine and I’d say the more creative players in the squad would flourish .

It’s on him now, go away and have a proper summer where he looks after himself and comes back flying then he and we will all be happy.

It’s his last chance really to be a footballer at a proper club, his stats ‘per 90’ minutes stack up against anyone in this league (in a poor team), but that he’s only played 1400 minutes is a lack of the right attitude and application catching up with him.

He’s for enough now to go into a summer and come out properly the other side - can get do it though?

It's not just the Twitter stuff though is it? It's the fact that he's utterly unable and apparently unwilling to get and stay fit, despite being an allegedly professional sportsman. He's been carrying more timber this season than a Jewson delivery lorry.

It has been an exceptional year though.

1) There has been a pandemic
2) He has had incredibly poor service
3) Lambo has been trying to get the team to play out from the back for 1/2 the season which did not work

Obviously in an ideal world, he would be in tip top condition at all times, but I am really not surprised he is fed up with this season.

You are right with those three points, of course. However, he is a professional footballer and is paid rather well to be one. With that should come certain responsibilities, as we all have in our working lives. Keeping fit as a sportsman whether we are in a pandemic or an attack by aliens is one of them. There are no excuses. Behaviour off the pitch is also part of it, or should be. Let’s be honest, even his biggest fan cannot say he’s been a model professional in that area.

Notwithstanding my view of him, as a mid table League One, there may be a place for him in the squad, but I do think we need better if we are to get anywhere.

Spot on . I suppose this is what Cook is on about when says he needs to be able to trust players . Now handing Norwood the captains arm band , might, just might, be a master stroke by Cook as he’d displaying his support for the player , hoping to get the right response back . We shall see . But I also agree with Keanish post about the attributes Norwood brings to the team . Get this player right and we have our 25-30 goal striker to fire us to promotion IMO.
