In 2005 I was in Budapest on a stag do, totally coincidentally town where there same time for a friendly against Ujpest so as part of the trip away I managed to convince all concerned we should take in the game as part of the stag trip.
In my circle of friends it is traditional that the stag is dressed in some inappropriate fashion for the duration, anyway we turn up at the ground ahead of the match, there’s 8 of us and the stag is dresssed in a Lycra bodysuit and tutu. He looked amazing! Anyway long story short as we approached ground out of nowhere we where surrounded by about 20/30 locals swearing at us calling us gay and other nondescript insults, a few punches where thrown. Luckily for us the police where close and piled in and broke it up and to my surprise let all parties split and go into the ground separately. Speaking to a police man on way in he said they were skin heads and ultras and this was normal. I was convinced I was facing an unpleasant night in a Hungarian police station. Any way the away ground is behind 1 goal and the vocal home the opposite end and I distinctly remember all the ultra flags and like on display there. We decided to leave the ground 5 mins before final whistle, jumped in a taxi and got the stag back to the hotel to change into more appropriate attire.
Anyway, I guess what I am saying is they had a problem out there in 2005, seems they haven’t moved past it. |  | | |
