Amidst all this joy... on 18:06 - Jul 4 by eireblue | The PM, Tory Ministers, MPs and various other right wing types seemed to care enough in the media. It is very funny that those that said they will refuse to watch, won’t be able to see their team in action. |
To be honest the only place I hear anything about all this now is on here. Just move on and enjoy the tournament

It's as if the Tories are fair game for racism accusations but Labour and its antisemitism is ok.

Yep, all the critics have gone rather quiet haven’t they? Do you think they’ve realised that they made themselves look like complete bellends? I said at the time that it was a big misstep from the tories in their pathetic culture war to try and turn the English people against their football team. Only the most brainwashed bought into it and it played incredibly badly with the vast majority.

Really, I think I read quite a lot in the media pointing out 1. There was anti-semitism in the Labour Party 2. This was a bad thing. Maybe you missed the coverage at the time? I am not sure an implied “, but Corbyn” gambit works that well in 2021.

Since Starmer's appointment there has been zero antisemitism in the Labour Party. That is a fact.

Amidst all this joy... on 15:22 - Jul 4 by gtsb1966 | I can honestly say that everyone i know is apathetic about taking the knee. It has run its course. |
Can you actually imagine why black players (and most white ones who actually understand something of what the black players actually face) are not apathetic and do not believe it has run its course? It is precisely because of the ongoing racism and the attempts of people like the Tory referenced in the OP to shut down opposition to racism that it has not run its course. It will not have run its course until racism has stopped. It is idiots like the Tory in the OP who are ensuring it has not run its course. They are part of the reason it continues. EDIT: I will reiterate the thought from earlier in the OP. What ineffective action is it that the right wing would like to be taken against racism that will not show them up to be supporters of racists? Where are the voices of the right standing against racism? They are deafeningly silent. [Post edited 4 Jul 2021 18:42]

As well as some of the posters opposing it. They all play their part in keeping vile practices alive. By refusing to speak out and condemn they are enablers, and a number who are more than that too of course.

Really? This is the full quote “There is no right or wrong decision, but for me personally I feel kneeling has just become a part of the pre-match routine and at the moment it doesn’t matter whether we kneel or stand, some of us still continue to receive abuse. I know there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes at the Premier League and other authorities to make change, and I fully respect that, and everyone involved. I also fully respect my teammates and players at other clubs who continue to take the knee. As a society, I feel we should be encouraging better education in schools, and social media companies should be taking stronger action against people who abuse others online - not just footballers.” Zaha said he fully respects people, you and your friends “…. apathetic about taking the knee. It has run its course.” I am not entirely sure you and Zaha are on the same page.

No, I think they just don’t go over the same ground time and time again like some people on here do. At the start of the tournament the England players decided they would take the knee before games. Some people said they would rather they didn’t do it, they said they were going to do it anyway, the people who would rather they didn’t do it just got over it. I actually feel sorry for some of you guys. England reach a semi final and instead of thinking ‘wahey, it’s coming home’ you come on here and start the same tired debate over again. Exactly. Zaha and Mings stopped because it is not having enough of an effect not because it has "run its course"! Anyone suggesting any player has stopped because it has run its course is being disingenuous or is very badly informed.

Don’t feel sorry for us Paz, we’re able to enjoy the wins absolutely, safe in the knowledge that we’ve given the team 100% support throughout and aren’t just jumping on the bandwagon now they’re succeeding having booed them before the tournament started. You can delight in the England team winning and still think it’s funny that a total nob like Lee Anderson has made such an idiot of himself 😄😄😄😄

I don't know the MoP concerned, but possibly he doesn't like footy that much anyway ;) Whatever, it's worth calling out as he's an elected rep, and whatever one's views on the matter it doesn't need to descend into the usual pigsh1t fookery on here.

Ah, so by now watching it (he probably isn't by the way), this bloke who you know nothing about arbitrarily in your mind somehow was one of "... the people who would rather they didn’t do it just got over it." The only reason you don't see anything of people still getting upset by opposition to racism other than on here is because of the circles you exist in. Wake up, Paz! Take a look at the world around you and the people you excuse the behaviour of.

If it is not having enough of an effect then why bother. If it's divisive then it's doing more harm than good. I'll be totally honest here and say in my everyday life I don't see a problem with racism in this country. Yes there will always be a small element but as a country I think we are all pretty tolerant.
