Met him a couple of times. First when I was about 8 to get his autograph, and later at a corporate do at the ground. A sad end but I remember he spoke at length about what a great life and career he had - he seemed genuinely thankful to the club and the supporters. He knew we held him in the highest regard.

Absolutely gutted. So many wonderful memories of watching one of Towns finest ever players. I remember being so excited when we signed him and he proved to be everything us fans hoped for.
Part of my youth ...
RIP Paul ... Thanks for everything.

Mariner remains my all-time favourite Ipswich Town player, despite never having been able to watch him on the pitch in the flesh. Brilliant striker in the greatest Town team of my lifetime.
Such sad news. I saw him and Wark about a year ago in a pub down by the quayside one Sunday afternoon. So lucky to have seen him play. A true town legend.
Wark and Mariner in a pub together. That’s a memory to cherish!

Was just before the lockdown I think. One of the pubs on the quayside used to have a soul singer on a Sunday afternoon. Not my cup of tea but the woman I was seeing at the time liked that stuff. Anyway they were both there that afternoon having a pint. Glad I was there now.

Nope, and I think a couple on here will be aware that he was not in a good place at all in recent weeks - very unlikely to be false but guess a case of just not wanting it to be true
I completely missed all that. A real shame - RIP Paul.
Dreadful news, my favourite player, like so many on here who were so fortunate to live through those great days.
A great striker, so many memorable moments, for me the one that stands out was the winner against Liverpool at home in 1976, a bullet header into the far corner.
Rest in peace PM, I would walk a million miles.....
That is my favourite goal too.. I remember that's when I thought, hello we really have some player here and just worshipped him from then on....such a shame there is no footage of it

A total legend. RIP Paul, you gave so much joy to so many people. I loved him not just for his goals but the way he dragged CHs out of the way to let Brazil, Gates, Wark etc score - and for his humour - football was fun in those days! BTW, outrageous that 5Live decided to note the passing of Jonno Coleman in their news bulletin and not mention Paul.

It’s hard to take, the players from our golden generation are gradually leaving us at no age at all, as each one goes I think a piece of us goes with them too, but I’m equally glad to have witnessed their achievements and the impression they made us and our club, thank you Paul.
