In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
So that people with disabilities can compete with fellow sportspeople on a level playing field? Paralympians are of course not banned from the Olympics.

They are, though there was some debate over whether Oscar Pistorius should be allowed to compete given the advantage his blades gave him.

Is someone who has benefitted from being born male & then competes with females on a level playing field? I dunno mane.

I can't believe this debate takes up so much airtime when we're talking about 0.3% of the population. Hundreds of millions of displaced refugees, people so desperate they get in a dingy to cross the Med or Channel, people relying on Foodbanks, but we have this debate instead.
It's the ultimate first world problem, change the competition rules to indicate categories as sex at birth and accept that if you wish to continue competing you have to sacrifice something.
It's also notable how, again, it is biological women getting undermined in this "debate". 49% of the population being ignored or called names if they dare have an opinion.
There aren't any regulations (yet, tho with the current bunch of 'corrumpere potestate civilibus ad insaniam convertunt' entrenched in Westminster, who knows ...) - to stop anyone discussing both - as you'd see on this forum, if you scroll back a bit.
Just a puff piece really, not looking at the actual issues at hand - much easier to do when she has gone out in the first round.
I think it would have been better for the IOC had she medalled and the conversation is had properly now before certain countires begin to use this ruling to their advantage (when you see what the Eastern bloc did in the 70s and 80s it will happen.....) but that was never likely to happen.

It is, but maybe we take one step at a time I guess. And it is a positive step, no question imho. Can you imagine how the same discussion would have gone say just 5 years ago on here?
Unfair - there's a reason why those born male and those born female do not compete together and it's because those who have gone through male puberty and all that brings will always have an advantage.
No female has ever come within 10% of the top 1000 males in the world in athletic events.
The fact that the average age for a weightlifter is 23, and Hubbard is 43 tells you enough. Some poor Kiwi woman misses out because the IOC take the ludicrous line that transwomen are women in every circumstance and fail to apply either science or common sense in this case.
Women's sport is a protected category, and the reason is because simply they are not able to compete with men - in the same way children don't compete with adults
if biology was irrelevant we'd be discussing trans-men competing in male events. but of course we aren't.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show
