Cowley is deeply unhappy over the handling of Jacobs on 09:55 - Aug 10 by Cheltenham_Blue | Probably not true, but would explain why Eisner suddenly deleted the tweet thanking Luton for honouring the deal. If someone told him it was only ever Pompey. |
To be fair Phil did say there was interest from our side. Maybe I should say the Pompey press may have deliberately ‘leaked’ that we we were interested but they may have known it was Pompey getting him all along anyway, just to add some spice.

He deleted it? That is interesting. A few possibilities. One, it isn't true. Two, he realised that Luton had received an equal bid and turned it down. This is actually unfair on Morrell as it leaves him without the choice of signing for either club (and the potential to play one off against the other for wages). The likelihood is that he may well have preferred signing for Cowley who he knows already. Three, Brett Johnson contacted Eisner to point out that Town never made a bid.

Cowley is deeply unhappy over the handling of Jacobs on 09:47 - Aug 10 by SitfcB | Just passing on Ipswich related news, Phil will do a story on it. Don’t care about Portsmouth, it’s just funny, they’re fans are the ones obsessed with us! |
From what I can see, its the other way around. Lets just quietly get on with the job and if it goes to plan, THEN we can shout about it come May.

Cowley is deeply unhappy over the handling of Jacobs on 09:44 - Aug 10 by pointofblue | We should have told him directly, and it’s bad on our part if we didn’t. In fairness to Cowley he did say moves breaking down happen in football because the club switches target so he doesn’t seem to be blaming us for that. |
Absolutely this. Tbf Michael Jacobs would certainly have been in the squad for the Fleetwood game if not a starter. He'd been informed a price had been agreed with, as it turns out, ipswich and that he was free to discuss terms. He agreed terms and passed the medical. Now you do see how this whole process was a waste of time. Not from the clubs perspective obviously. Pompey won't care about ipswich and vice versa. But this was about a player. Certainly Cowley has done nothing wrong in trying to protect the player. I wonder if internally the hierarchy at ipswich will be having a word quietly yo make sure this doesn't happen again.

How can we avoid that happening again? It was merely an unfortunate turn of events. Edwards' Bournemouth trial was cut short on Saturday, after Jacobs had completed his medical. Pen hadn't been put to paper, so Ipswich were well within their rights to shop around. The club had been eyeing Edwards throughout the summer, but didn't think they could get him. Turns out they could.

I don't think anyone's suggesting we were wrong to pull out of the deal. The question is whether the communication of this to Jacobs was done in a decent manner. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. We'll probably never know as there's no reason why the club should discuss it as he isn't our player and never has been.
Cowley is deeply unhappy over the handling of Jacobs on 12:00 - Aug 10 with 585 views | Churchman | What is interesting is that Ipswich this summer have largely tried to do deals in private and announce when the player arrives. They’ve not conducted their business in public in the way Cowley has. It feels now like Cowley has been flapping his mouth all summer about Ipswich along with one or two others. I prefer the no manipulating things in public, just do the deals approach. The reality is that Cowley’s version of events is now the absolute truth. It doesn’t matter what Ashton or Cook say or did. Cowley got in first and that’s how news/facts work and always have done. The real truth is irrelevant None of it matters. It’s about us and Cook pulling together a team that succeeds. At the end of the day, Cowley and the rest can boil their heads for all I care. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I do wonder whether Cowley has presented the situation in the best light for Jacobs though - no “we’re delighted he’s staying”, no “we can’t wait to get him back on the pitch”. From the outside looking in it feels like a grudging re-integration for a player which Portsmouth daw an opportunity to get rid of and really wanted to do so.
