Edit; actually, don’t watch A Serbian Film ever under any circumstances as I genuinely wish I hadn’t.

Yeah, supernatural stuff that really gets the mind going. Not so much gore etc.
My top 3:-
The Exorcist (director's cut for the spiderwalk scene etc) still the best horror film ever made The Conjuring The Conjuring 2 (the rest of the series are thoroughly average, but the first two are excellent)
Then ones I've watched recently and really enjoyed:- The Ritual (2017) - didn't expect too much but this punched well above it's weight for me Old (2021) - not horror horror, more like a feature length twilight zone, but I'm a big M Night Shyamalan fan and this hit the spot for me
When I was in my teens a film called Burnt Offerings scared the bejesus out of me. Haven't seen it since and it may well be quite tame by today's standards.
Best horror I've seen recently (and I watch a lot) is The Dark and the Wicked. It's a bit of a slowburn, but it had a genuinely creepy and unnerving atmosphere. Aside from Hereditary which has already been mentioned I'd highly recommend The Autopsy of Jane Doe and A Dark Song as well for well made, dread inducing horrors.

If you can get it, the DVD of The Woman in Black, TV version starring Stephen Rea. Much more scary than Daniel Radcliffe's film and with a heart stopping ending. It was shown on telly about 20 years ago.

What a spoiler-tastic trailer - no mysteries, it tells you the whole film!

The Wicker Man doesn't scare me, but it does gives me the horn!
Some people in Norfolk think the Wicker Man is a documentary
For me, it has to be Blood on Satan's Claw. Very atmospheric and disturbing. Also, try and find the original version of 'Whistle and I'll Come to You, My Lad' with Michael Hordern. MR James was a master of horror and it's shot in Felixstowe and Aldeburgh.

Have you seen the remake with Nic Cage? It’s amazing.
