I think we to take into account it was a cup game, but can we afford Toto in.. 23:48 - Nov 6 with 6491 viewsunstableblue

… the team??

I like Toto, and being at Wycombe I saw some of his heroic defending

But that was a howler again today…. Yes I know all the players struggled to get into gear today, perhaps more focussed on the league

But just few Toto always has an error in his locker

I kind of feel today it showed that our final settled selection to bring the necessary run of consistent wins is not settled, will it be:

Walton
Donacien Edmundson Burgess Coulsen
Morsy evans
Aluko Chaplin edwards
Bonne

I thought Cook said he would keep players he felt he could work with and develop, Wolfenden being one. El Miz qualifies as academy too.

I don’t recall him trying to offload Donacien or Toto. I highly expected him to but don’t remember any reported links. Got any inside info on what was on the table?

El Miz is too young to qualify, without Woolf we’d have to be naming an academy player on the bench for each week which would hamstring us - the fact he wasn’t even in the 20 yesterday and played for 23s earlier in the week shows where he is currently.

Toto was ine where we took contract with a view to shifting, club didn’t even tell him we were taking his extra year until he saw it on social media, but fair play he’s got into the team and is doing well enough. We tried to stick Donacien into the deal to bring Burns here, which he only found out about later on.

Interesting. I had no idea about Donacien or Toto. Donacien as a make weight makes sense but it was surprising he was still here come pre-season despite not being really linked with any other right-backs.

We’ve a bit of a dilemma and also a problem at CB now. Toto can’t be relied up and neither can Wolfenden for similar reasons although caused by different character traits or flaws. Edmundson has made Burgess’ place his own so unless they swap or Burgess plays on the right we’ve got to either re-configure to find a solution or one of those three needs to step up-to-the-plate and quickly. My money would be on Burgess given we’ve seen the same issues with Wolfenden and Nsiala for two or three years now.

Donacien was told to prove himself over the summer as Cook hadn’t seen him - although his mate Coleman gave him a glowing reference.

Cook has always known and liked Toto. He is aware of his flaws and never tried to get rid of him. He loves his character and always wanted him in his squad.

Woolf would have been shifted had he not been given a shiny new contract. Not a Cook sort of player but hopefully can kick some fight into him.

Understand the desire to force a narrative all the time but we mustn’t slip into make believe.

Woolfenden didn’t play for the Under 23s earlier in the week. It was against Colchester and none of the senior squad played.

I don't really see that Woolf has made many errors, or even played poorly this season - but regardless he is very much 4th choice now and looks to be by quite a distance.

Toto will be good enough for us in this league (as will Burgess and Woolfie in reality), do you just go with him until we hopefully go up and then look to replace at that time when you've got a bit more pulling power in the market?

Edmundson the key now, he has nailed his position down, on the left. At the moment Toto is doing well enough alongside him - but things can/will change with injuries and then we'll see where we are come the end of the season.

I can't see much business being done there in January unless one were to go which seems unlikely - maybe we'll see Woolf go and the return of Myles Kenlock into the 25 to ensure we hit the rules and to cover Coulson who can't catch a break!

Personally I think some people expect to much from what are league 1 defenders. If any of them had 0 errors in games, they wouldn't be league 1 players. It's as simple as that IMO.

We tried to get a champ quality CB and we failed, i'm sure Edmundson will be one but at present is a solid league 1 defender. Toto, Burgess, Wolfy all standard league 1 defenders with errors in their game. Wolfy is to casual, Toto not great facing his own goal, Burgess not great with players coming at him.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

Your second paragraph; yes. And that’ll probably be the case for 3 or 4 positions.

Our defence isn’t quite good enough for our promotion plans tbh . We need another CB and a left back. Penney I’d no better than Kenlock tbh and Coulson appears to be always injured . I’d say we also need another GK on the assumption that Holy will leave soon and I don’t really rate Hladky I’m afraid.

Penney no better than Kenlock?

How on earth have you come to that opinion?

Does he add balance if Edmundson is looking so much better on the left?

Woolfenden is the one who adds balance but he can’t even get on the bench when 9 subs so clearly isn’t fancied.

I don’t see Toto or Burgess being good enough to step up if we go up, so you go with the one who will help get you more points in L1 this season and for me that’s currently Toto

Yes, he does add balance with his left foot.

Edmundson - Burgess is the long term pairing, Toto an adequate understudy, but don't trust him in the side week in week out.

Woolfenden - I don't particularly rate anyway so no issue with him not making squads, possibly get shifted in January.

The against Morecambe stands out a mile. I thought he could have done a bit better and been a bit sharper for Plymouth’s second. I’d love to see Edmundson and Wolfenden form a partnership but I agree, he’s down the pecking order at the moment.

What a surprise. A POC Ipswich player who has been a key part of our good form makes his first big mistake in weeks and all of a sudden he’s clumsy no brains just an athlete and can we afford someone like that in the team? TWTD gets worse.

Outrageous isn't it? There has never been a shred of evidence that Toto makes mistakes or is clumsy.

Yes I have to agree.. whilst there are still a few positions where we haven't quite nailed it... across the squad we have replaced with far far superior players

Holy - Wilson
Wolfenden - Endmundson
Downes - Morsy (yes I know Downes is good, I know he's holding a place down at Swansea, but his head had gone here)
Edwards - Burns
Norwood - Bonne

etc etc

Because he is a left footed footballer, playing in the LCB role.

Edmundson would still be a central defender, he will still be playing the same position?

It's just a fine detail. A right footed RCB, a left footed LCB, it's natural balance to the back line.
