Good omicron news on 22:20 - Nov 30 with 2495 views | StokieBlue | Excellent news if true. I am surprised they are putting out data so early and he stresses it's preliminary about 5 times. Do you know where the underlying paper is as they only have 4 cases in Israel which seems a very small sample to draw any conclusions (they say they have included SA cases as well). They also say it's 1.3 times more transmissible than Delta and that the unvaccinated have a 2.4 times more likely to develop serious symptoms than original covid which definitely hasn't been said anywhere else. In this case "unvaccinated" means anyone without a booster - 2 doses counts as unvaccinated. Get your boosters people. SB [Post edited 30 Nov 2021 22:23]

Israel didn't use AZ. I would wait for a more detailed study, the sample size here seems very small. Most scientists are saying 2 weeks. The one take from it is to get your booster ASAP. SB [Post edited 30 Nov 2021 22:34]

Excellent news. The analogy I heard and I like in the case that Omicron reduces immunity (which seems likely now) was the following: Imagine you have an army armed with machine guns. Someone then comes along and replaces those machine guns with muskets. Your soldiers are still OK but far less effective than before. You then recruit some more soldiers (your booster giving you more antibodies) and whilst these new soldiers are still armed with muskets you now have more soldiers and thus they can still be effective as an army. At least effective enough to provide protection over winter until a tweaked vaccine can come along. Get your boosters people. SB

That's extremely concerning if so, essentially my second dose in July has left me vunerable until January. Edit - within 6 months, which takes me to January, so should be ok [Post edited 1 Dec 2021 7:47]

I'm not sure. He hadn't tweeted the link when I last looked but he/she has been a very reliable source throughout. Agree it is very early, but Israel wouldn't come our publicly without some level of confidence. As you say, get the booster. That's the best defence

Yep the first quote implies a second dose within last six months should provide good protection. Although of course people should get their booster if eligible.

I was given a box of airfix Desert Rats by Alan Beith MP for Berwick-Upon-Tweed when I was a lad. I think it was that act of largesse that inspired him to become Liberal Democrat treasury spokesman later on.

:) As i've said before, my views are based on impact I see in work too. Same as our resident medical expert BB, it's hard to find positives too often with the feck ups from this Government

Yea I watched BJ's press conference yesterday as he went through his act and just thought what a bunch of utter cretins we have 'leading' us. Let's hope this truly isn't as serious as feared as no doubt he will refuse to act until Christmas Eve. Each to their own but how anyone can vote for them at the next election I really don't know.
