Players who can be improved... 16:45 - Dec 17 with 1407 viewschrismakin

Looking through KM's previous coaching roles. He's been credited with helping some of the best youngsters in the English game.

Taking that on.. who do you think KM can really work with to get them to another level.

I think the likes of Evans, Morsy etc are pretty much what they are and the shape around them will determine if they start putting in regular 8/10 performances.

But for me. I'll be interested to see how he and his team work with the likes of Edwards. Harper. KVY. Wolfenden who all have great attributes but just lack that extra something.

I think it was Bluebadger who said we've barely seen many players improve whilst here.. hopefully this is where that changes.

Whilst here. Does anyone have a club what formation we might be looking at.

I'd say he would have been more likely to have improved the likes of Dozzel and Downes rather than third division journeymen in a sulk - but who knows.

There's a chance, if he is given time, that there may actually be some joined up thinking between the academy and the first team = with less emphasis on the under 23s being a gulag for out of favour players. That would be a step forward of Neil Armstrong proportions.

Possibly. But QPR met the release clause so we couldn't stop it and Downes wanted out. So it's a shame but we move on.

It's quite fitting the talk about how the u18s and u23s need another level of development than they've been getting for years at town and its something KM speaks alot about.

Yeah, actually improving the players we have, individually and collectively, has been well off our radar since McCarthy left pretty much.

Man U were always 4-2-3-1 when he was there, but I'd like to think 3 at the back is on the table. Think it potentially solves quite a few of our issues.

Harper, El Mizouni & KVY would be my wild picks.

Need someone to build in there with Morsy, I don't understand the criticism of him personally, tenacious nasty bastaard in there, just needs a move advancing partner.

Would like to see a 3-4-2-1 personally

Walton
Donacien (or Woolf) - Edmundson - Burgess
KVY - Morsy - Harper (or El Miz) - Penney
Burns (or Aluko) - Chaplin (or Celina)
Bonne (or Norwood/Pigott)

I think it is a squad that can be well utilised in that formation.

Agree with that, I'd like to see 3 at the back. A combination of ability, form and injury meant we didn't have the full backs to execute Cook's favoured 4-2-3-1 effectively. I think it has been one of our main problems. Moving KVY (or Evans), Penny & Coulson up the pitch could be a very good move.

Harper and Fraser. I just feel he’ll feel more comfortable with technical players. I wouldn’t be surprised if those two and Morsy end up being a midfield 3.

Woolfenden and Edwards probably too.

Feel like our back 4 this season has exposed our full backs' flaws defensively (KVY, Penney) and offensively (Donacien). It's also exposed all our centre backs bar Edmundson as either bad in possession or exposed defensively one-on-one.

We're also getting stuck moving the ball out of defence. Teams just press our centre midfielders and full backs, safe in the knowledge that we can't use the centre backs as spare men to build the play.

Back 3, you relieve some of the defensive pressure on the wing backs, get more aerial presence in defence (no more long ball teams dropping the ball on the full back's head), get to include 2 defenders who can pass progressively, get the wing backs wider, both of which are going to make us harder to press and open up spaces in midfield.

Every player we have can be improved. We have not got 34 year olds at the tail end of their careers and none of them have been coached at the top level either.

The bigger question is who he will improve. Time will tell there.

Ones I would most like to see improve are the defenders collectively, the team as a unit and Edwards and Celina.

If he can get Edwards some end product then we have a player on our hands.

We do seem to have a 3-5-2 (or variants thereof) squad playing 4-2-3-1, minus a lack of centre back cover. It'll be interesting to see if McKenna and Pert do try and explore this.

if he can get penney to mark, tackle and maybe stop the odd cross coming in, i'll be more than impressed with his coaching abilities.
