Lincoln - interesting facts to help the afternoon along on 15:21 - Dec 30 by Keno | I went to Skegness once its was like a down market version of Lowestoft |
Grimsby is also in Lincolnshire. I have been to both Grimsby and EDIT: this should have said Skegness here rather than Lincoln (although I have been there as well. Lincoln is fairly charming). I would actually rather go to Lowestoft! It was so grim in Grimsby that Kabba tore us apart and Burley got sacked. It was so awful in Skeggy that I got a sick bug at their Butlins. No one chooses to go to Lowestoft but it is preferable to both of those places and probably Lincolnshire generally (although Lincoln on a sunny day is quite nice). [Post edited 30 Dec 2021 16:32]

Darwin will have been named after a place called Darwin which is also the name of a place in Australia but probably a different place also named after the one that Darwin was named after originally. Although, then again, there must be some etymology for naming the place in the first place.

We also used to play hockey in Boston. One of the most difficult trips to get a team together for.

Spent a few days a couple of years ago looking around Lincoln. It’s not the worst place on earth. We stayed near the cathedral on the hill and there is plenty to do and see around that part. Ok, it’s a bit remote but I liked it.

Grimsby bizarrely don't play in Grimsby, rather Cleethorpes. My pedantness is off the scale today.

Darwin was married to the daughter of Josiah Wedgewood who made posh pottery. Stoke are called the Potters due to links with pottery. No one willingly watches football in Stoke either. Horrible place to watch the Town attempt to play.

Now that's a great bit of information. I don't think anyone has yet mentioned a British 4-engined heavy bomber. Not to be confused with the Lancaster bomber also made by Avro and also 4-engined and used by the dam busters.

Or the Manchester, come to that. Also made by Avro it was the predecessor to the Lancaster and had the endearing feature of two underpowered (Vulture) engines that could catch fire without any help from the Germans. And emergency exits that were too small for the crew if they were wearing flying kit. Oops.

Grimsby and neighbouring Cleethorpes can boast actors Patricia Hodge and Michelle Dotrice amongst their famous (former) residents. As well as, of course, Kevin From Grimsby.
