“Are girls really that young?”

Of course a reminder that the Mail editor was friends with the convicted…

Ah, the Daily Mail. The paper that regularly posts 'all grown-up now' bikini photos of underage girls while simultaneously ranting about paedophilia.

I for one am shocked at their take.

If you are thinking of Geordie Grieg he is no longer the DM editor and certainly no friend of Ted Verity and Dacre.

That article was written by Jan Moir. Just don’t google her name along with Stephen Gately.

Remember the days before Twitter when no real person knew or cared what the Daily Mail’s carnival barkers thought about anything

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

I became aware of PIE when they tried to pamphlet Sheffiield Uni in the mid '70's.
With the unions flexing their muscles, the oil crisis and rocky hitting £18 an oz it just seemed an issue that was not important to my way of life.

PIE; The entire concept is so bizarre it feels it should be unbelievable.

Caused a lot of trouble for the average gay men whose existence, as the article says, became synonymous with paedophilia.

I’ve only seen what’s been posted on here, which includes Lucan’s defence and now this. Utterly bizarre. She was a sexual predator of minors. They may have been mature minors, but the law’s the law. WTF is wrong with people who are defending here? (that’s a rhetorical question as far as the DM goes, we all know what’s wrong with them).

They're not mature minors at 14 though are they?

At 14 they should be fiddling about with their 16 year old boyfriends because they're impressed they have a moped which is where 14/15 year old boys sh1t out. They can't compete with that.

What shouldn't be happening is them being airlifted off to some island for middle aged men, and women, to treat as sex toys.

Mentally, they are not equipped for that. 14 years old. Just 4 years before that she'd have been 10.

They’re certainly maturing at that age (as opposed to pre-pubescent kids under ~11/12 for example). Biologically, 16/17 year olds are adults. Legally they’re not though in this case, so I suppose it’s wrong of me to introduce a sub-category. She groomed and trafficked kids. End of, as we say.

I wasn't intending to criticise your choice of words.

I was just backing the sentiment whilst saying there are levels of maturity that do not not include the involvement of adults.

Holy sh1t.

I was stunned to learn of a 'pro rape' group a few years ago on here but that raises the bar even further.

This is a hot take from dear old footers, and bear with me on this one, but although PIE was a dinstinctly awful group, there still needs to be some sympathy with actual paedophiles who do not act on their impulses.

Whether we like it or not, some people are attracted to children or teens who are not of-age. There was an amazing call in to the James O'Brien programme which I think has sadly been removed now. Anyhoo, the fella on there admitted 100% to being a paedophile but had never done anything with kids in his life. He was near suicidal - for obvious reasons. He had the guts to call in, admit he had feelings for kids and had a therapist for it - but the anguish in his voice was telling.

Although I, and we, can't possibly condone it, we still have to accept that this is some people's sexuality - no one wakes up wanting to be a paedo. But how do we address if it it's never acted upon? Are we welcoming and understanding of these people or not?

Anyway, happy new year :)

There was that story years ago of a man who went to his doctor explaining that he was having unusual desires that he was uncomfortable with.

Wouldn't act on them and they were completely against everything he had ever stood for.

Upon further examination somewhere down the line it was discovered he had a tumour or something?

To this day I do not know if that story was made-up or true but it did the rounds. Maybe it was a thing to get men to seek help rather than hurt children on impulse.

But yes, if someone were to be having desires to hurt anyone, seeking medical help would be a healthier bet you'd think. If the individual is responsible enough and isn't comfortable with those desires. That's got to be the difference.
